from USD116 Superintendent Dr. Ivory-Tatum
To view past superintendent updates, please visit District Updates on our website.
Greetings Urbana Family and Friends,
We have made it to the end of a school year, which has been more challenging than any of us could have ever foreseen when the school year began. I commend each of you for the perseverance you have shown in many different ways. We have proven there is nothing we cannot accomplish together.
To our graduating seniors and their families, please know you will always be a part of our Urbana family. We wish you all the best! For those unable to attend the graduation ceremony this evening, you can tune in via this Livestream link to view the ceremony held at State Farm Center tonight at 6:00 p.m. If you missed Honor’s Night, you can view the celebration via the following link HERE.
To our 5th graders moving on to Urbana Middle School and our 8th graders moving on to Urbana High School, we look forward to the intellectual, cultural, and social activities we will be able to experience with you when we return in August. To all of our returning students and families, we are excited about the challenges and milestones we will reach together as a family next year. I hope you achieved all the goals you set for yourself this year, and the District is excited to be part of your path toward achieving future goals.
As we enter the summer months, one of the resources we will again offer is the Free Summer Meal program. Free Summer meals for kids and teens are available all summer long at certain USD116 schools. The attached flyers show the times and locations where families can go for free meals: Free Summer Meals; SP - Free Summer Meals; FR- Free Summer Meals. The Summer Food Program is sponsored by the federal government and aims to provide children with access to food during traditional summer vacation periods. There are no income requirements or registration needed.
Next week, we open registration for our returning students for the 2022-2023 school year. Registration for returning students will be open from May 31st through July 25th. It is crucial that returning families register during this time. For students eligible for First Student transportation, if you are not registered by July 25th, there is a strong possibility that you will not have bus transportation for the first day of school. For more information regarding the registration process, please view the registration videos linked here: Registration video; SP-Registration video.
In closing, I ask our Urbana family to keep those impacted by the tragic events at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas in your hearts and prayers. As Superintendent, District Administration, and the Board of Education, our primary goal is to keep our students and staff safe. These events are every school’s worst nightmare, which is heartbreaking. Please keep the victims and families in your prayers during this unthinkable tragedy. #StrongerTogether
As Superintendent, it has been my privilege to share this journey with you this past year, and I look forward to seeing you all again in August.
Be safe and stay well this summer,
Dr. Ivory-Tatum

Coming This Fall: Bus Tracking App
In continued partnership with our transportation provider First Student, USD116 will
launch the FirstView App this fall. FirstView is a bus tracking and parent communications app
for your smartphone or desktop. Set up the app to track your student’s bus in real-time
and receive alerts prior to arrival.
We successfully piloted the FirstView app at UMS and Thomas Paine this spring and are excited to expand it districtwide starting this fall.
Once bus assignments have been finalized, you will receive information from your school on how to set up the app. We are excited about the timely access to bus information that the FirstView app will bring!
CU Farm To School Logo Winners
