The Marshall Message

Hello Marshall Families!

I hope to find you well as we enter the end of the 5th grade year! It's amazing how quickly time has flown by! Soon your kiddos will be walking into the doors of General Marshall MS. We are excited to meet each and every one of you! We know that Marshall will be a place where your child discovers more about their interests, cultivates their talents, meets lifelong friends, and challenges themselves academically.

Hiring

I have been busy interviewing the very best administrators, counselors, teachers, and staff members to support our kids. Marshall students deserve the absolute best. I commit to hiring team members who will work tirelessly to support your children. Interviews are ongoing. As we begin to select the candidates, I will share information about them with you.

Construction

Our construction management team and contractors have been working non-stop to ensure that our facilities are ready for the August open. We are on track and anticipate occupancy in June. Of course, June is set aside to set up all of our flexible 21st century learning spaces and equipment.

Visiting the Building

I am working closely with our construction management team as we go through inspections and deliveries. My goal is to invite families and staff to visit the campus in July. More information regarding dates for a transition event are on their way.

Mascot and Colors

We took the suggestions on your choice sheets and community input seriously! It's important to me that our students feel they have a voice that is not only listened to, but also valued. Colors and mascot have been selected and will be revealed soon! Our AISD Communications and Marketing team is working diligently to make sure we have some cool logos so we can start reppin' Marshall on the daily!

Site visit with the L.P.A Architects, Joeris Contractors, AECOM/AISD Construction Management team, and Trustees Dr. Foster, Hunter, and Gonzales. Our Executive Director, Dr. Wilson and Chief of Schools, Gilbert Hicks joined us, as well!

FUN FACT- The building is in view of the iconic airport tower. The instructional wing of the building was designed to look like a wing of an airplane! ✈️

1. Review the information in this s'more regarding the programming (courses/classes) available to your child next year.
2. Have your child sit with you and discuss their options.
3. Get a piece of paper to write down your choices.
4. When you understand your choices, enter your choices in this choice sheet form.

• 4/21/23 Deadline for completed choice sheet forms
• June- Move in time!
• July- 6th grade transition event (date TBD)
• August 14- First Day of School!

• Classes and programs that interest them!
• Clubs or sports they may want to join!
• If they have any friends at the 8 elementary schools that haven't decided about their middle school choice...if so, please share my info with their families.
• What books they are interested in reading this summer?
• If they could create a fun elective class at Marshall...what would it be? (e.g graphic novel class)--email me with some ideas!
