September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month at Benteen
Parents are asked to complete a library card application for their child if they have never had a library card, or if they have one that needs to be renewed. Mrs. Brightharp and Mr. Gittemeier, from the East Atlanta Branch Library, are working together to orchestrate a library card sign-up drive. The Benteen Library Card Sign-Up Drive will end on Friday, September 30, 2016.

Hispanic Heritage Month Begins on September 15th
Americans celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15th until October 15th. The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson, and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988, to cover a 30-day period. September 15th is significant because it is the anniversary of the independence for Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua.
To find out more about this important celebration, visit the Benteen Elementary School Media Center in person and/or online at http://www.atlanta.k12.ga.us/domain/4922
Benteen Students Learning Their ZPDs
Once a week, the instructional coach and the media specialist will work together to track the students' progress. The tracking data will come from various reports made available through STAR 360 and Accelerated Reader. To help our students understand the collected data, displays will be used to exhibit the students' progress.
Students are not permitted to take Accelerated Reader quizzes at home. However, parents can monitor their child's progress on Accelerated Reader and Accelerated Math by visiting the Renaissance Home Connect website and entering their child's username and password. During their initial visit, parents can set-up Home Connect to send them emails when their child works in either program.
