December Parent Newsletter
Principal's Message
Can you believe December has arrived? We want everyone to stay warm as we begin to approach this winter season. Please make sure you label all coats, sweaters, hats, and gloves. Students will typically go outside for recess if temperatures are 30 degrees or above. If the temperature and/or wind chills are below 30 degrees, we will not go outdoors for outside recess.
Coffee with the Principal
Our next Coffee with the Principal is scheduled for Monday, December 12th at 9 am. We will talk about different learning styles for students. We will look at different strategies used to engage different types of learners during instruction and much more.
Cafeteria Scanners & Badges
We also have some exciting news to share. Our cafeteria recently received new scanners installed for students to use at lunch. Students now only need to scan their ID badge when going through the lunch line. They seemed to enjoy the new upgrade and so do we!
Arkansas Rewards Recognition
Lastly, we'd like to bring to your attention that Arkansas State Report Card Grades were made public last month along with Rewards Recognition Schools being named and published as well. Willowbrook has a state letter grade of A. Congratulations to Willowbrook students and staff for your hard work and determination. Willowbrook will be receiving rewards funds for the Top 5% Performance and Top 6%-10% Growth that will be spent on student and school initiatives.
Please see our attached December calendar for upcoming events.
Thank you,
Mrs. Christina Hamilton

December Counselor Chat
Lessons– It’s December! Our Core Essential Values word for the month is “Joy.” Joy means finding a way to be happy, even when things don’t go your way. Talking points you can share with your child:
• What are some things in life that make you happy, even when things aren’t going your way?
• Have you ever known someone that seems to have joy all the time?
• Can you think of anyone in your class or family that has joy? How does it make you feel to be around that person?
• Think about some of the things that bring joy to your family and friends. Take some time or spend a little money to give some small gifts that you think will bring joy. Make a card, bake some cookies, do an extra chore or service project, give them a small piece of candy. Pay attention to people who are having a bad day and think about what you can do to bring some joy to their lives.
Holiday Assistance–please let Mrs. Armstrong or Mrs. Short know if you are needing help this holiday season. We can be reached at aarmstrong@bentonvillek12.org and nshort@bentonvillek12.org.
