Dear CSD Families and Staff,

Every spring, the end of the school year can be a bittersweet time for students, parents, and staff alike. While we celebrate students' growth and achievements, we also feel nostalgic when saying farewell to a favorite teacher or as we watch our students and new graduates begin the next phase of their studies or careers.

This is especially true this year as we were reminded so clearly of the value of in-person learning. Team projects, public speaking, musical performances, field trips, art exhibits, and athletic events -- each provided our students with opportunities to develop socially, intellectually and emotionally.

Thank you to our tremendous staff who, throughout the year, pivoted and poured themselves into helping our students make progress toward their goals. Education is truly a calling and I am so grateful for our team members who guide, counsel, instruct, and care for our students and keep the district operating smoothly.

Thank you to our families for your support, for your volunteerism, and for entrusting us with your student's education. We are proud to be your partners in preparing them for success.

We are excited to welcome our summer school students for a fun and engaging set of learning experiences and to see our students, including our new district families and kindergarteners, when school resumes in September. Until then, I wish you all a wonderful, relaxing summer filled with fond memories and time spent with those you love.

We are proud to introduce Sarah Stephens as Creswell School District's new McKinney-Vento liaison. In this role, Ms. Stephens will help coordinate services to ensure that homeless students and unaccompanied youth enroll in school and have the opportunity to succeed academically.

On Friday, June 10th, Creswell High School held its 114th commencement to celebrate the 83 graduates of the Class of 2022. Whether their plans include post-secondary studies at college or vocational school, serving our nation in the military, or beginning their professional careers, we are proud of the effort and diligence that each exhibited to earn their CHS diploma.

Earlier in the day, the graduates headed to Creslane Elementary for a Grad Walk, receiving high-fives and congratulatory messages from their former teachers, staff, and our elementary students.

Congratulations to class valedictorians Adeline Garzanelli, Abbe Grubbs, Gabriella Halgren, Lillian Heltman-Hogg, Emma Kersgaard, Julianne Kersgaard, Karinna Leonard, Emma Maness, Emily McGuire and Emme Whitson and to class salutatorian Cassidy King.

The oldest continuously running student club at CHS, Key Club is an international student-led organization that provides its members with opportunities to provide service, build character, and develop leadership. Our local CHS chapter is associated with and sponsored by the local Coast Fork Kiwanis Club.

Each year, Key Club members serve our community through various projects. In the past, these have included visiting local care centers, creating and distributing care packages for unsheltered individuals, and providing food and gifts for local families during the holidays. Last week, during Key Club's annual clean-up project, members helped beautify the CHS campus just in time for graduation. Joel Higdon, Key Club advisor, says, "The Key Club students are outstanding. It is so very rewarding to see firsthand the kindness and level of caring our high school students foster. And to that point, our community is lucky to have these young citizens."

As a reminder, Thursday June 16th is the final day for families to sign students up for KITS - Kids in Transition to School. KITS is a FREE kindergarten summer program at Creslane, offering opportunities for students to get comfortable with their school, gain school readiness skills, and meet new friends. To register your child, click here.

• Wednesday, Sept 7th - Classes begin for 6th-9th graders
• Thursday, Sept 8th - Classes begin for Grades 1-5, 7-8, 10-12
• Sept 8-14 - Staggered start for kindergarteners
• Sept 15 - Classes begin for KG

On Tuesday, June 14th, Creswell Middle School held a promotion celebration for its 93 8th grade students. Congratulations to our promoting Tigers and their families!

On Wednesday, June 15th, our 5th grade students had an opportunity to tour Creswell Middle School during Welcome Day. At the end of the day, they walked through the halls of Creslane Elementary for the last time as students, enjoying cheers and good wishes from other students and CES staff and, in the evening, celebrated with family and friends at a promotion ceremony. Congratulations to our newest CMS Tigers!

CMS Students Meet Legend, the official WCH Oregon22 Mascot

Thanks to letters written by 5 CMS students, Creswell Middle School was treated to a visit from "Legend," the official mascot of the World Athletics Championships taking place at Hayward Field in July. Legend and a team from Making Tracks, a youth engagement program affiliated with WCH Oregon22, prepared a fun pentathlon of events for our middle school students, including a geography trivia quiz.

Creswell welcomes the Finnish Athletic Federation

There will be a community-wide open house on Friday, July 8, 2022 from 4:00 - 6:30 p.m. at the CHS Track and Field area to honor and welcome the athletes from Finland who will training in Creswell in advance of the World Athletics Championships. Entertainment will be offered and a light dinner will be provided on a first come, first served basis.

This summer, Food For Lane County's Summer Food Program is once again inviting children and youth age 18 and younger to eat lunch for free during the summer months. Meals will be served Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at various locations around the county, including Creswell's Holt Park.

Please note that, with the lifting of COVID-19 rules, some rules from the past are being reinstated. The following rules apply to all sites.

• Children must be present to receive a meal.
• Grab and go meals are no longer an option.
• Children must finish eating meals before leaving the site.

Family Relief Nursery offers child-directed therapeutic classrooms for toddlers and preschool-age children that focus on developing children's socio-emotional skills. For more information, visit their website or check out the flyers below.
