Summer vacation is right around the corner. Working with all of the responsibilities that come with daily classwork, your child/children are well deserved to rest and relax. At the same time, I would like to suggest for adult family members to sit down with your child/children to plan out his/her daily routine schedule of fun and structure during the Summertime days.

The Summer time is a great opportunity for young children to develop their own interests that engage children to be creative, learn new things, and keep busy. I hope that one of the big interests during the Summer is the FUN of practicing Math skills!

In my newsletter below, I have starting points that you can explore with the whole family to see what would be a good fit for your child to enjoy in Math.

Becoming fluent in basic multiplication and division facts is one of the core essential Math skills because it is connected to so many other Math skills. The Reflex App provides a fun way for students to practice multiplication and division facts. It keeps track of your child's progress.

Reflex is a Districtwide App that students have had access to in the classroom and at home during the Summer. Students can access Reflex through Clever on our District website.

Starting in Third Grade, teachers take a big jump into learning multiplication and division facts. Continuing into Fourth and Fifth grade, students see how knowing their facts smoothly and quickly is so very important when learning other math skills such as figuring out a common denominator when adding and subtracting fractions.

Reflex has addition and subtraction facts practice also.

Khan Academy has interactive challenges and assessments as well as thousands of practice questions. Students earn badges along the way and can use them in a game. It has something for everybody in all age groups and provides performance summaries for all work completed.

iPractice Math is a website that provides multiple choice and short-answer practice for students in grades 1 through 12. Questions are provided by topic and can be completed one at a time or in an online worksheet version. Special reports are provided to highlight student achievement and areas of need. The "Learn" tab provides step-by-step strategies and examples, as well as math vocabulary use. Register today for free. You know what to do -- click on it and get started!
