Our Mission:
Principal's Message
This week marks the last full week of May. With 16 days of school remaining this is a great time to check on your student's grades and talk about their plan to maintain or improve them before school ends on June 14th. As the weather improves and the days get longer it is important to finish strong these last week weeks and do one's best. The next few weeks also mark times of celebration as our seniors count down their final days on campus, attend the Evening of Excellence, have the opportunity to go to the junior/senior prom, celebrate at graduation parties and participate in our MHS Graduation ceremonies on June 9th. It is an exciting time on campus.
If you have any questions about events taking place on campus or what to expect at the end of the year, please contact me by email at dforbes@meridian.wednet.edu or by phone at 360-398-8111.
Go Trojans!

Teacher Feature
Justin McGrew - CTE
This is Mr. McGrew's second year of working at Meridian, but he student taught and subbed here for a year and a half about seventeen years ago. He also coached here for three years, he coached basketball, baseball, and football. He says his favorite thing about teaching at Meridian is the kids, he says the kids are so friendly and kind. They always say "thank you" at the end of class. This is the seventh building Mr. McGrew's worked at but none of the other places he's worked at have been like this. Mr. McGrew chose education as a career because when he was in high school his experience wasn't very fun for the most part and he felt like he could do better. He was interested in many different career paths and he even tried some of them but he eventually came back to education for good. He loves knowledge and the discussions he has in his classroom. He also enjoys being the smartest in the room and sometimes he is. Throughout his years of teaching he's been tasked with a wide assortment of classes, he's never had a boring career. He's been a dean of students, a counselor and special education teacher. He's taught science, social studies, English, and digi tools in a middle school. In high schools other than Meridian, he's taught computer software and hardware classes. In general he's coached track and field, basketball, baseball, and fastpitch. He's also been a part of two state championship teams for fastpitch and football. The football one was here in Meridian. Outside of teaching at Meridian, Mr. McGrew is also a freelance photographer, and an active day stock trader. The way he got into photography was his dislike of soccer, he couldn't stand it but when he grabbed his camera and was on the sideline looking through the lens on a perfect fall day he realized he loved the sport. Mr. McGrew also has a one year old named Jack, he was named after his golden retriever. Mr. McGrew says his highlight from working at Meridian is every day, he never feels dread while driving to work, he's always been happy going to work. He said even when we had to do distance learning, or if there was a hard day ahead, he enjoyed going to work here. Students say their favorite thing about Mr. McGrew is that, "he treats us like adults and helps prepare us for the real world," "he teaches and helps his students become successful," and he "cares a lot about teaching his students and helping them grow in life."
Teacher Feature is provided by Bhavnoor Dhatt. Bhavnoor is a leadership student that will be providing the Teacher Feature as part of her personal project for Leadership class.
National Paper Airplane Day
National Paper Airplane Day is celebrated every year on May 26 to commemorate the fanciful aeronautical toy. Paper airplanes have fascinated children and adults alike around the globe for generations. The day is usually celebrated with contests in two basic flight categories: distance and time in air. The practice of constructing paper planes is sometimes referred to as aerogami, after origami, the Japanese art of paper folding. Crafting paper planes is said to have originated out of ancient China, but the art is said to have been perfected out of Japan.
Request Transcripts Through Parchment
Meridian High School has partnered with parchment.com to fulfill transcript requests for current students and MHS alumni. Transcripts are securely sent electronically to colleges and universities across the nation, resulting in a reduction of lost documents at the financial aid offices. The service is free of charge to current students. Alumni pay a small fee. Please make sure that your intended college accepts electronic transcripts.
Please find the “Order transcripts through Parchment” link under Families & Students/Resources on the MHS website. Current students may call Mrs. Brinkman or Mrs. Waterman to receive their Parchment access code at the MHS office 360-398-8111.
