Lyman Memorial High School

The Lyman Community has been very busy since we last reported to you! We had a wonderful Drama Production at the end of October, " 2 From Poe!" Our girls Soccer Team are the 2021 ECC Division 4 Champions and made it all the way to quarter finals for the state tournament. We sent four students to the FFA National Convention in Indianapolis this past month. Nine students were inducted into our Tri-M Music Honor Society and officers were appointed. Our student Dog Pound has been very busy cheering on our Athletes! Finally our Girls Volleyball team is gearing up to for the State Semi-finals on Tuesday 11/16/21! These are just some of things keeping the Lyman Community busy these days!

Lyman will be putting forward SIX new courses for next year. The new proposed courses are:

1. Certified Nursing Assistant - Certification Course

2. FAA 107 Drone Pilot- Certification Course

3. Landscaping and Turf Management

4. Yoga

5. Sports Nutrition

6. Mathematics for Machine Technology

Mask Reminder: With the number of positive COVID cases increasing we want to remind everyone of the required mitigation strategies. These strategies keep you and others safe. Masks are required and everyone should observe proper social distancing protocol.

1/2 Day 11/24 and No School on 11/25 and 11/26

On Friday 11/12/21 Lyman celebrated World Kindness Day (observed on 11/13/21). The purpose of this day was to help our students understand compassion for others. The Lyman Community all wore blue in an attempt to unite and pledge to make the world a better place by celebrating and promoting good deeds and performing random acts of kindness. In addition a presentation was done during PAWS by teachers. Students completed a google form about random acts of kindness.

- School Counselors are visiting ninth grade classes this month and doing career related lessons. Students will use the Human Esources computer program to take Learning and Productivity and Skills Assessments to add to their SSPs ( Student Success Plan). Counselors will follow up with individual student meetings to further explore identified careers of interest and the educational pathway needed to get their desired job.
- College bound seniors should be completing the Common App, filling out Transcript Request Forms located on-line or in the guidance office, completing the FAFSA, and researching scholarship opportunities. Scholarship opportunities can be found in the Scholarship folder on our school's website. Seniors and/or parents should reach out to counselors with any questions. Here is the link for the Scholarship Folder. Students should also utilize online scholarship search sites such as fastweb.com.

- Connecticut College is now accepting registrations for the New London Scholars program which allows Lyman students the opportunity to enroll in a spring semester course at Conn College tuition free. Space is limited. Students should see their counselors for more information.
