Author Dusti Bowling will be visiting our school virtually on October 17th during Disability Awareness Month! She will discuss her books including the Aven Green series, her life in the Sonoran Desert which provides inspiration for her stories. She will also share writing tips. The main character in Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus and the Aven Green series was born without any arms. In addition to the events during the school day, there will be a special virtual presentation for Fairmount families October 17th from 6-7pm!

Join us to learn more about RULER, an approach to teach kids the skills of emotional intelligence. These skills are useful to help understand our emotions, use them wisely, and aide in getting along with each other.

Classes at Fairmount make a Charter, which is a plan to help everyone in a group feel the way they want to feel. At the meeting, we will explain how you can use Charters at home and help your family create one.

All family members are encouraged to come! Snacks will be provided, and we will have Spanish and Russian/Ukrainian interpreters available at the meeting.

Fourth-grade students will begin a wind instrument unit and learn to play the recorder. New recorders will be issued from the school shortly. It is theirs to use all year and keep forever. Students are welcome to take their instrument home to practice but are expected to have it with them for every music class. This is great preparation for the responsibilities they will have in Band and Orchestra next year.

We are planning a daytime and a nighttime concert to perform the results of our hard work sometime in March 2024 to celebrate “Music in Our Schools Month.” More information will follow.

Fairmount PTSA’s 3rd Annual Trunk or Treat will be on Thursday, October 26th from 5:30pm to 7:00pm.

This is a safe opportunity for your student to dress up in costume and visit themed cars for treats. Vehicles will be parked in an enclosed area behind Fairmount. Students must have adult supervision for admittance.

As we are expecting many students, please consider donating candy for this event.
