Safety and Modern Day Learning: A Machining Lab Update
Thanks to the Scott County Regional Authority (SCRA) we have updated the machine lab in Bettendorf High School to incorporate ten new lathe machines, remove old machines and electrical updates. By modernizing the machines in the machining lab students are better able to develop their skills using machines that are standard in the industry today.
A lathe machine is a stationary cutting tool used for shaping wood and metal by removing the unwanted parts of the workpiece. They can be used for product fabricating operations such as sanding, drilling, cutting, deformation, and turning.
"We have more than 100 students signed up for machining classes this year. The machining lab update enables us educate students who can be ready to join the workforce with a solid foundation of both the knowledge and skills necessary for machining careers immediately after high school."
Haleigh Hoyt
Career Readiness Coordinator
SCRA funded $77,450 of the project with other financial support coming from a Carl Perkins Grant - federal funding to states to improve both secondary and postsecondary career and technical education programs.

February Therapy Dog Bites
Delta - Bettendorf Middle School
February is a perfect month to exercise heart health (figuratively and literally) by creating opportunities to be socially and physically active. Winter is a time families tend to spend more time inside due to the cold and fewer hours of sunlight.
Here are some “doggone” good ideas:
During the winter months it is important to intentionally plan social activities with family and friends. Plan activities that include others to naturally boost your mood and outlook.
Keep active inside or outside by playing games and enjoying nature (hide and seek, building blanket forts, going sledding or taking a hike)
Sleep at least 7 to 8 hours a night for energy and mood stabilization.
At school students stay active physically and socially through PE class, recess, lunch and coursework with peers. Make sure your students arrive at school on time and well rested to fully engage in the school day.
No “bones” about it, we have a lot going on in the Quad Cities. Here are some “pawsitively” great resources for at home and in the community:

Students were asked to imagine what the soldiers who wore the helmets, uniforms, shoes, etc. experienced. Also, to understand that the story or experience that each artifact could tell and its impact on our lives today.
