Head Cheetahs Message
Families,
Fall has officially arrived! The Petunias have been replaced by Mums, the apples are ready to be picked, there are pumpkin flavored treats in every coffee shop, and we’ve been in school for FOUR weeks! It is hard to believe that we’re already entering our last week of September. Thank you for your partnership throughout our first month together. It was a pleasure seeing all of you at Open House. I hope you found the event to be welcoming and informative!
Have a wonderful weekend.

Start With Hello
On Monday, everyone in our Memorial School community was given a name tag and we encouraged learners to say, Hello," to someone new.
On Tuesday, students were taught about being an upstander. Students that were being upstanders were given a certificate to commemorate using their voice to do right.
On Wednesday, the building wore green as a symbol of unity and solidarity with the Sandy Hook Promise. Green is the Sandy Hook Elementary School color and a symbol of change.
On Thursday, students learned about trusted adults. They identified who their trusted was. Some students drew pictures of their trusted adult and others wrote them thank you notes.
On Friday, over announcements all students took the Start With Hello Promise Pledge. They pledge to have empathy, be inclusive, use their voice when something is wrong, and always start with a friendly, "Hello!"
Memorial Models
Memorial Models are chosen weekly by their teacher. These students have excelled all week in taking care of themselves, others, and things. The recipients will dine at a VIP table during lunch every Friday!

Pawsitive Office Referral
A PAWsitive office referral is submitted when a staff member recognizes a student who is going above and beyond to exemplify one of our three school rules - taking care of others, taking care of self, & taking care of things.
Physical Education News
Hi everybody,
We hope you all had a great summer!
PE class has been going great (although with the really hot days we’ve had, and the rainy days as well, we haven’t been able to go outside much). Hopefully this third week of September will be the start to a long stretch of nice fall weather!
The children have been settling into our PE class routines, with our warm ups first, including stretching and fitness running/jogging, and then our PE units and lessons, which involve our skills activities, in Sept. that would include soccer and foot skills with a ball, skills and fitness stations, various locomotor movements, and the rock climbing wall. Our warm ups focus on balance, strength, power, speed, cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, and agility.
Our skills units are our curriculum and standards set forth by the state and in coordination with the national standards and trends. Many of our objectives and goals are attained by incorporating games into our units that stress and highlight those skills and movements we are working on at that time.
Equipment we have used this September include hula hoops, short and long jump ropes, stacking cups, spinning plates, ring toss, juggling scarves, “ice cream cones” (catching equipment and soft “fluffy” balls to work on eye hand coordination), and heart rate monitors.
Pre K, K, and Grade 1: We have focused on developing healthy routines and habits through exercise and skills games that will help them feel confident and comfortable during play and with their friends. Kindergarten and Grade 1 have PE class two times a week for a total of 90 min., Pre K has PE class for a total of 40 min. per week.
Grade 2 and Grade 3: We have focused on preparing the children for the State Physical Fitness Testing Program that they will take in grades 4, 6, 8, and 10, during our warm ups. We begin our mile run/walk in each class and introduce the children to the “Running Club”. We have played some indoor soccer on the days we couldn’t get outside and introduced the children how to safely use the “Fitness Lab” equipment.
Please help make sure your child wears (or brings) sneakers and a water bottle each day they PE class, for both their safety and comfort. As Oct. rolls around, your child may also want to bring a sweatshirt to PE class, as we try to go outside for PE class until about Thanksgiving time, weather permitting.
If anyone has any used exercise equipment that you no longer use, we would be more than happy, and appreciative, to add it to our Fitness Lab. Just let us know and we will figure out a way to get it to the school, thanks!
Please feel free to contact us at any time about anything you might have any questions about.
See everyone at Open House on Sept. 20 and 21!

What's Cooking In The Kitchen
Breakfast:
Just a reminder that school breakfast is free for ALL students this year. No signup is needed unless you have a preschooler or first-grader – parents of preschoolers or first graders should email Jen Bove at jbove@easthamptonct.org if they want their child to receive free breakfast delivered to the classroom. All other grades can pick up a breakfast of their choice in the cafeteria when they arrive at school and take it with them to their classroom! There is a hot option every day, so if your kiddo doesn’t have time to eat at home or enjoys eating breakfast at school, have them stop in the café in the mornings!
Lunch They’ll Love to Munch:
Wednesday we are serving our brand-new Sloppy Joes – made from scratch and so delicious! It’s served with Zucchini from Cold Spring Farm on the side, and the option to choose from other fruits and veggies including a fresh garden salad and local apples!
In the Garden:
Our Garden is BURSTING with produce! This week the garden club weeded and then planted radishes and harvested tomatoes to use in our café salads! We also removed any tomatoes that had severe blossom rot so the plant can focus their energy on the healthy tomatoes that are on the plants! It looks like the eggshells are working, we aren’t seeing much blossom rot on the newest tomatoes – thank you to everyone who sent them in! (Insert pics from email)

Safe School Climate
The East Hampton Board of Education and the school community as a whole promote a secure and productive school climate, conducive to teaching and learning that is free from threat, harassment, and any type of bullying behavior. Therefore it shall be the policy of the Board that bullying and/or teen dating violence committed against a student by another student is prohibited. The Board believes that a school environment in which students feel safe, supported, engaged and helpfully challenged is optimal for learning and healthy development. The Board seeks an environment in which students and adults feel socially, emotionally, intellectually and physically safe; an environment that is free of harassment, intimidation, teen dating violence and bullying. Our website provides links to various policies and reporting forms including our Safe School Climate Plan. Hard copies are also available in our main office. If at any point you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to building administration for further assistance.
Attendance Matters
Please note
When considering the number of absences your student has accrued, keep in mind that a student must be present for 195 minutes in order for the day to count! When bringing your student in late, or signing them out early if they have not been in school for a 195 minutes the day will be recorded as an absence.
