Wharton Wildcat Newsletter
February 26, 2021
Dear Families,
Report cards will be mailed home to families, on March 12. You should expect to see those at your home shortly thereafter. On March 25, we will be hosting our second round of virtual conferences from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Your child's teacher may reach out to schedule a conference to discuss your child's academic progress. Should you have any concerns, please feel free to contact your child's teacher as well.
Thank you to all families for your responses related to the hybrid learning plan presented by the district. At this time, the data received does not yet support hybrid learning for students at Wharton, therefore Wharton students will remain in remote learning for the time being. Our ultimate goal is to provide this option to families at some point this year. We will be reaching out to families again as we reevaluate the situation in one month's time. Again, we appreciate your support and patience as we navigate this process. Should you have any questions, please feel free to call the main office.
Educationally yours,
Dr. Shestine Gesbocker, Principal
Mrs. Sara Leone, Associate Principal

What is the 5 Essentials Survey?
There is still time to complete the 5 Essentials Survey, if you have not yet done so.
The 5 Essentials Survey identifies five indicators that lead to improved outcomes for all students, including improved attendance and larger test score gains.
The five indicators that positively affect school success are:
- Effective Leaders
- Collaborative Teachers
- Involved Families
- Supportive Environments
- Ambitious Instruction
Research derived from the 5 Essentials for School Success has proven that schools strong on at least three of the 5 Essentials are 10 times more likely to improve student outcomes.
Schools across Illinois participated in the eighth annual 5 Essentials Survey of Learning Conditions: Organizing Schools for Improvement this past academic year. This survey generates valuable data that districts can use to guide their ongoing efforts to improve schools and to offer students an excellent education. The survey is another improvement tool that allows districts and the state to share data as a means to inform parents and community members about the school’s learning environment. The Illinois 5 Essentials Survey is administered online by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago on behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education.
