SHES Weekly Update
August 5th, 2022

Updates for the Week of March 27 - 31, 2023
Dear Shadow Hills Families,
I hope everyone was able to enjoy spending Spring Break with your children and were able to reset and relax. We have nine more weeks of school left! The last couple of weeks of school is always my favorite! Students can show off their skills and knowledge learned from the past year.
Our third through fifth graders will be gearing up to take their state testing, CAASPP. If you have a third through fifth grader, please ensure they are ready for the day and have had a good breakfast.
I'm looking forward to another fantastic week at Shadow. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Meris
Character Education - Citizenship
Here at school, we have been very busy learning about citizenship - what it means, and how we can practice it! Learning happens best when it is done both at school and at home. Below are many ways that you can help you child continue to learn about the theme of kindness through reading about it, talking about it, and practicing it! We have really enjoyed exploring this topic at school, and I hope your family will enjoy it just as much!
Reading About It
Here are some books to help you learn more citizenship:
Practice It!
Together with your child, talk about what would make your neighborhood, family or community a better place. Choose something and do it together. You could make brownies for your neighbor, rake leaves, clean up a park, or any other that you or your child have.
Talk About It!
Here are some discussion points to help you talk about citizenship with your child:
- What do you think citizenship means and why is it important?
- Tell me about someone who is a god citizen. What makes him or her a good citizen?
- Do you think you are a good citizen? Why or why not?
- What is something you could do to be a better citizen of your neighborhood? Of your school? Of your classroom?

LCAP
The LCAP, or Local Control Accountability Plan, is our district plan for improving student achievement. As we begin to make adjustments to our LCAP, it is vital that we have our educational partners' feedback on this plan.
Your input will assist us in providing our students with an excellent education. The short survey will take about 10 minutes to complete. We would greatly appreciate your feedback. Click here to take the survey.
Family Financial Literacy Night
Mother Son Night
Sadly, the rain has moved our Mother Son Event. Please join us on April 27th!
Lunch on the Lawn
SHES Parent Handbook
Please review and save this handbook for reference throughout the year.
Water Bottles
- Water bottles - It is extremely important that your child brings a water bottle to school DAILY. We do have multiple water bottling filling stations on-site to refill their bottles.
Volunteers
If you are planning on volunteering this school year, please fill out our Volunteer Packet and return it to the Shadow Hills office.
