What is the 078 Licensure?
The school library director/supervisor is a system-level school library professional who may be identified as Director of Library Media Services, Director of Media and Technology, Coordinator of Library Media Services, or Library Supervisor. School Library Supervisor licensure (078) is required for service as Director of Media Services in many school systems. This is an add-on license that requires:
- Candidate must hold a Media Coordinator (076) license (or hold the equivalent for your state)
- Have 3 years of experience as a school librarian by the end of the program
- Complete 9 graduate semester hours of credit in administration, curriculum development, and/or supervision (OFFERED through this cohort)
- Complete the Educational Leadership: Administration and Supervision Praxis exam (5411) with a passing score of 145 to obtain final license. (To be taken at the completion of coursework)
- Final Portfolio (to be completed at the end of the coursework)

Requirements to Apply
To qualify to apply for this licensure,
- Participants must hold their MLIS
- Have 3 years of experience as a school based librarian by the end of the course work in fall 2023
- Hold a 076 license as a SLMC (School Library Media Coordinator)
Plan of Study
If there is enough interest and we have a minimum of 10 people, we are planning to start a cohort in the Fall of 2023 with the three courses offered on the following timeline:
- Fall - One of the following will be offered:
- ELC 670 Leadership for Teaching and Learning: examines conceptions of "good" schools and the nature of instruction, curriculum, assessment, and professional development. Explores leadership, change, and school renewal that works toward good schooling and pedagogy.
- Spring- One of the following will be offered:
- LIS/TED 669 - Educational Implications of Learning and Developmental Theory
- Summer 2024 - Offered Online Synchronously/hybrid
- LIS 694 Supervision: School System Library Media Programs
Principles and problems in administration and supervision of the district level library/media program of the school system.
