Media Center & Technology Updates

We are happy to welcome Mrs. Specht, our new User Support Specialist (USS). She has jumped right in and been essential in keeping our technology and Chromebooks running and updated.

The Media Center has been a hopping place the last two months!

• Between December and January we have seen an increase in students using the MC for stufying and independent work.
• Many classes have also utilized the Media Center for lessons and small group work.
• Mrs. Lungociu has had the pleasure of collaborating on Health lessons with Mr. Meredith and Mr. Moreland.
• Mrs. Holland's Life Skills and Society class designed and printed 3D cookie cutters which were then used for baking just before winter break.
• Mrs. Robinson's art classes designed, 3D printed, and painted keychains while pulling in the elements of art and design.
• Ms. Phelps' Lab 21 classes designed, 3D printed, and painted roller coaster car prototypes to round out their ammusement park project.

The "BCMS Media Center Pass" system allows students to sign up to use the Media Center for book checkout, independent work in the Media Center (with teacher permission), and lunch opportunities. The pass system link is in our Schoology Course.

*Availablilty of passes varies daily based on Mrs. Lungociu's schedule and use of the Media Center by other classes.

With the pass system students can now utilize the passes to come and checkout books when they would like.

• Books may be checked out for 3 weeks at a time.

• Books can be renewed 3 times.
• Books can be put on hold using our LS2Pac (students must be signed in with their FCPS account).
• Books on hold will be delivered to the student's ELA teacher when they come in.
• Books can be returned to the Media Center on checkout days or placed in the blue bins in the student's ELA classroom.

Overdue book notices will be sent out at the end of each term.

Students can also use their LS2 accounts to check their account status and which books they have out.

All students have been issued an FCPS Chromebook are responsible for proper care and use of their devices. This includes, but is not limited to:

1. Keeping the device in the school issued case at all times.
2. Refraining from sharing the device and/or charger with others.
3. Refraining for adding stickers or drawing on the device.
4. Only using websites and programs as instruced by staff.
5. Charging their devices each night so it is ready for use the next day.
