"Stay in the Loop" 11th Edition
Letter From the Principal
Happy New Year! I hope your holiday break was filled with moments with your children that will be treasured memories for a lifetime. Having a two year old grandchild experiencing Christmas brought back another level of joy for my family this year, and while I loved every minute I spent with a house full of family, chaos, and laughter, I was also excited to return to my other family, the students and staff of SPX!
As we enter the season of Open Houses and school tours for prospective families, I want to remind you that word-of-mouth advertising is one of our most powerful marketing tools. I encourage you to share your positive experiences with others and to invite friends and family to come and see our school in action.
Additionally, during the last week in January, we will be celebrating Catholic Schools Week. This special week is an opportunity for us to come together as a community to celebrate the unique mission and values of our school. During CSW, we will have a variety of activities and events planned to highlight the many ways in which our school supports the spiritual, academic, and personal growth of our students.
I hope that your family has a happy and healthy 2023! I pray for your children daily and I ask you to keep our community in your prayers, too. Enjoy your three day weekend!

It's Report Card Time!
It's hard to believe we are halfway through our school year! You will receive your child's Quarter 2 report card on Friday, January 20th. Please pay special attention to the Work Habits section, because this portion focuses on how students are using their God-given gifts and making a positive difference in the classroom.
Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on Thursday, February 9th. While all parents are encouraged to attend our beginning of the year conferences, our midyear conferences are only held one evening, so they are reserved for parents and teachers to discuss concerns. Our teachers will put their requests in the comment section on the report card. Parents who have concerns may also schedule a conference. You should receive an email by the last week of January which will include a link to schedule a conference.

SPX Teachers Make Learning Irresistible!
The 1st graders in Room 111 watched, measured, and recorded matter changing as the day warmed up their snowman!
The 5th graders enjoyed creating and presenting state floats!
The kindergartens practiced reading CVC words by sound skating on paper plates!!
Panthers Making a Difference
While all of our students are asked to stand quietly during funerals when the casket is being taken to the hearse, Jude chose to show respect throughout the entirety of his recess. The family was thankful for the way he honored their mother, and he was a beautiful example of someone who is making a difference.
Brooklyn didn't have a hat or gloves and the wind was blustery at recess. Justin and Valerie stepped up to lend her some of their winter gear to help her stay warm.
1st Graders Celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr Day
Mrs. Marchi's class worked on non-fiction reading skills while reading a Scholastic News article about Dr. Marting Luther King Jr. The students followed the steps of a directed drawing and wrote down some of Dr. King's famous words. Dr. King stepped in to where people were hurting and he walked with them, marched with them, and encouraged them. That's what love does, it helps others and makes a difference.

Enthronement of the Sacred Heart
The purpose of the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is to focus our hearts on receiving the love of Christ and returning His love with gratitude. May He be glorified with all of our heart, soul, and strength! St. Margaret Mary received many visions of The Sacred Heart and received 12 Promises from Jesus that are promised to us too through this devotion. Our school building and classrooms will be enthroned to the Sacred Heart of Jesus after mass on January 24. All are welcome and encouraged to attend this special mass!
Here are a Few Christmas Highlights We Missed!
A Juggler's Christmas Carol*
Our Preschool-3rd grade students were treated to "A Juggler's Christmas Carol" before Christmas break. This was an adaptation of the popular story, but this time, Scrooge was a juggler! Through laughter and screams of delight, the students learned the importance of sharing and generosity, which was a perfect message during Advent. Thanks to "A Night in Green" for funding this exciting holiday performance!
Christmas Band and Choir Concert
Our students enjoyed their first band and choir concert in the Christmas pajamas!
Special Gifts
Our 5th graders created these beautiful Advent Angels to share with their families!
Coffee with the Counselor*
Today Mrs. Saddler hosted the second Coffee with the Counselor meeting. She shared techniques to deal with misbehavior with positive discipline!

Surprise Uniform Checks
We had our first surprise uniform check, and while only 7 out of 19 classes earned a raffle ticket, the majority of our students were in the correct uniform. Yay! Thanks to all of you who scheduled haircuts for your sons over break! Please remind your sons to wear belts and please have your daughters review the jewelry/makeup/nail polish policies. All students should be reminded to wear the correct color socks. We appreciate your help in getting all of our students in compliance! Classes that are in compliance will earn raffle tickets for a chance towards a class Dress Down Day!

Multicultural Night*
St. Pius X School is excited to present Multicultural Night on Thursday, March 2nd from 6:00-7:30 pm! Here at SPX, we have families from all across the globe. This will be an opportunity for our families to share the rich traditions from their family’s culture.
We are looking for volunteers to showcase aspects of their culture. Each family will have a table to present various traditions, including (but not limited to) a tri-fold board, food, music, art, stories, dancing, textiles, etc. There will be a meeting held on January 26th @6pm via Zoom for families who are interested in presenting.
Join us in appreciating our similarities and celebrating our differences!
