Middleton Elementary | January 12, 2024
Middleton Families,
Happy Friday! Thank you for your flexibility as we release at 11:00 a.m. today to ensure our students and staff can get home safely due to the predicted inclement weather. Unfortunately, this means today's Family Movie Night and Spelling Bee are canceled.
We are happy to announce that Middleton's Chess Club is back and today was the first day. We have over 60 kids particulating and it was a huge success! A big thank you to Mike Hiland and all of our parent volunteers who made this possible for our students.

Celebrate Middleton Staff
Free Dental Screenings for Children Age Seven and Younger
Throughout the month of February, local dentist Dr. JJ Bittner of Bittner Dentistry for Kids will be giving free dental screenings at each elementary school. Dental screenings at Middleton will be held on Friday, February 2. This is a screening only and no treatment will be given. This is for children age seven or younger who have not been to a dentist.
You may already have turned in a form to our school to say that your child has been to a dentist, or that the screening is against your family's beliefs. If so, your child will not be screened. If your child is screened, results will be sent to you in backpack mail and also go into the student's file at their school. If you wish to opt-out of the screening, please contact our office.
For more information about the screening, you can contact our district's Health Services Department at 503-825-5093. Good dental care contributes to the overall good health of our students!
Free Vision Screening for All Elementary Students
Sherwood School District will be be hosting free vision screenings for all elementary students. Vision screenings at Middleton will be held on Tuesday, February 20. The testing will be done by Lions Club with helpers using the SPOT screening devices. The test is painless, is done from a distance, and does not touch your child's eyes or face.
Results will come to us in about a week. Most students pass the exam. Due to the amount of paperwork, we will only send home "not passing" results to parents/guardians in student backpack mail. If you want a copy of "passing" results, please contact our Health Services Department.
If you do not want your child to have the vision screening (opt-out) please contact our office. If you have any questions about the vision screening, please call Health Services at 503-825-5093.
Financial assistance may be available if your student needs an eye exam and/or glasses.
