6-12 New Class Schedule Starting Fall of 2024
After surveying students, families, and staff it was determined that the secondary schools will switch back to a 6 period day starting in the fall of 2024. The impact this has on students will vary. Students will be required to earn 24 credits for graduation which is the state requirement. With the 7 period day students, starting with the class of 2025, were going to have to have 26 credits for graduation.
The graduation requirements will be updated over time and adopted by the school board at an upcoming meeting to reflect the changes.
Student Led Conferences & Graduation Requirements
Students will be forecasting for the 24-25 school year at the end of February. Families will have an opportunity to review the choices students are making and assist with their planning.
An Electives Fair will be held in late February to give students a short presentation on each elective course offered at Kalama High School. This will help students plan for the courses that meet their interest.
Below are the Requirements for the High School & Beyond Plan
9th Grade: Student Led Conference in March
10th: Attend Career Fair & Conference with staff if credit recovery is needed.
11th Grade: Job Shadow completed & a Student Led Conference in March
12th Grade: Committee Service hours completed & a Mock Interview in March
Students should be updating their resume each year to keep it current.
CREDIT RECOVERY: SUMMER SCHOOL PLANNING IS IN THE WORKS
Students who fail one or more classes during fall semester or previously will be invited to Summer School to make up lost credits. The best way to avoid Summer School is to earn credit the first time and not to fail classes.
More informaiton about Credit Recovery will be sent out later in the year for families to plan around. Making up lost credits is essential to graduating on time!

SCHOOL REMINDERS
STUDENT HEALTH
COVID Guideline are updated by the Department of Health. Click on the DOH guidelines for what to do if you are exposed or if you test positive for Covid: Decision Tree.
Cell Phone Policy
Students should have all personal cell phones and electronic devices turned off during class time. Cell phones used during class time will be confiscated and placed in the office until after school. Repeated occurrences of unauthorized use of personal electronic devices could result in progressive discipline.
Closed Campus Reminders
Kalama School District has a closed campus. Students 6-12 should not be in the parking lot during the school day. The only exception is for 11th and 12th graders who have a permission slip signed by their guardian and the school administration.
Seniors: Some 12th graders might have a "Dismissed Period" giving them permission to leave campus. Signed permission slips are required.
11th/12th graders during lunch: During lunch, 11th/12th graders with permission may leave during lunch. Students must have a signed permission slip and they must follow the school expectations. Leaving campus is a privilege.
9th/10th Graders DO NOT have permission to go to the parking lot or leave campus. Students are expected to stay in the designated areas during lunch which does not include the parking lot or the front of the high school.
Parking Regulation Reminders
The safety of students and staff is very important. Driving on campus is a privilege. Students may maintain that privilege by following the school expectations.
All students must register any vehicle that is to be driven on campus during school hours. One sticker will be issued per student. The sticker is to be placed in the back of the vehicle window and may be transferred between registered vehicles in their name. Students are responsible for their vehicle and are liable for any damages or sanctions caused by the operation of that vehicle regardless of who is driving. The school district is not responsible for damage to vehicles driven or parked on the Kalama High School District campus.
Students are not allowed to park in the lower parking lot by the high school or by the church. These areas are for staff only. Students should park in the lot by the gym or the stadium.
