From the Principal's Desk
August 30, 2021
Greetings FWAFA Family,
As Covid-19 cases continue to rise in our city, we are seeing an increase in our number of cases as well on campus. Although we are not allowed to require mask wearing, we are highly recommending and encouraging mask wearing by everyone in the building. Also, if your student is exhibiting any signs of Covid-19 symptoms, please keep them at home.
We have Meet the Teacher Night for grades 7-12 this Thursday, September 2. You will need to know your student's schedule as you will travel from class to class on our Monday schedule. We will give all secondary students a schedule during their 8th period class to bring home to you on Wednesday evening. If you don't get the schedule from your student, you will need to come between 5:30 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. to pick up a schedule in the auditorium. I have more details about Secondary Meet the Teacher below in the newsletter.
Creatively yours,
Dr. Jackson

Introducing MAP Growth
Starting this week, your student will take a MAP® Growth™ test from NWEA® on a Chromebook. MAP Growth scores help teachers check student performance by measuring achievement and growth. Teachers use results to tailor classroom lessons and set goals for students.
MAP Growth tests are unique, and it adapts to your child’s responses to measure your child’s skill level. If your child answers a question correctly, the next question is more challenging. If they answer incorrectly, the next one is easier. These results will provide a more complete picture of what your child knows and is ready to learn—whether it is on, above, or below their grade level.
Since MAP Growth tests provide immediate and accurate information about your child’s learning, it’s easy for teachers to identify students with similar scores that are generally ready for instruction in similar skills and topics, and then plan instruction accordingly.
MAP Growth reports also provide typical growth data for students who are in the same grade, subject and have the same starting performance level. Each school year, students in grades 3 through 10 take the tests at the beginning of the year, middle of the year, and end of the year.
Following each testing period, you will receive a Family Report showing a summary of how your child is performing academically.
We are truly excited to focus on your child’s individual growth and achievement. For more information about MAP Growth, visit NWEA.org/familytoolkit.

Tools and Materials Donation Drive for Theatre Department
A Message From Our Technical Director, Ben Phillips.
The FWAFA Technical Theatre Department is hosting a Tools and Materials Donation Drive for the 21-22 school year! As we begin to ramp up FWAFA productions again, the cost of materials that we use to create sets, props, etc. is crazy due to the pandemic! In response, we thought we'd reach out to the community to help us out so we can continue to produce the same high-quality productions that you've grown to expect from our talented students!
The event will run from Monday, August 30 through Saturday, September 11. There are several ways you can contribute:
1.) We have set up a Donation Registry asking for help purchasing specific materials that we commonly use to create productions. Use the following link to navigate to our registry. Please read the Welcome Message before you make your selection.
https://www.myregistry.com/organization/fwafa-fort-worth-tx/2971452
2.) If you would like to make a monetary donation towards producing our performances, you can click the following link to do so. This link is now open and will close on Friday, September 10 at 4 p.m.
https://www.artsacademics.org/tech-theatre-donation-drive/
3.) Do you have construction materials (2x4's, plywood, etc.) or tools (drills, saws, etc.) in your garage that you just don't know what to do with? Bring them to us! We will be at the school Saturday, September 11 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., and you can bring us anything you don't have a use for anymore. Anything we decide not to use will be donated to Habitat for Humanity.
Thank you all for your help and we are so excited for an amazing year!
Attendance Notes to attendance@fwafa.org
