Parent Pick Off and Drop Off Lane Reminders
Three Options for Pick Up and Drop Off:
Park your car in the designated parking spots and walk your student to the sidewalk.
Pull up to the sidewalk and your student may exit out of the RIGHT side of the car. Do not park your car along the sidewalk. If your child needs assistance, it is best to park your car and walk your student to the sidewalk. No child will be allowed to cross the parking lot to enter a parked vehicle.
We recommend that students in grades 2-4 be dropped off/picked up in front of the District Office or the High School.
Parking your car in the drop off lane is NOT an option.
Gratitude
Research shows this feeling is associated with better sleep, more positive emotions, stronger relationships, greater resilience, and even a boosted immune system.
The feeling I'm talking about is gratitude. Here's the best part: no matter where kids are at, you can help them regularly experience this feeling. How? Let's start with what doesn't work:
- Telling kids others are less fortunate than them
- Asking kids to just feel grateful
- Forcing kids to say thank you
While we can coax our kids into showing gratitude, we can't force them into genuinely feeling it. So, how do we nurture authentic gratitude in our kiddos? Here are some research-based methods to try with kids:
- Start a gratitude journal and dedicate 5 minutes each night to writing out at least one good thing that happened during the day
- Model gratitude regularly in your home or classroom; these can be small, demonstrable acts of appreciation
- Write a gratitude letter to someone who's been a positive influence (as a bonus, send or read that letter to the person)
Another Great Resource:
Go Zen provides social emotional learning for all ages, as well as supports to parents and teachers. Topics include: mindfulness, resiliency, impulse control, worry/anxiety, and stress. While the programs can be purchased, there are also free resources and an email thread you can join at gozen.com.
