Lottery is Open Now!
- The 2023-2024 lottery for Charter Schools is still open but closes February 10, 2023! If your child has any siblings that are not currently enrolled into Chesapeake Math & IT North, but you wish to enroll them, now is the time to enter for a seat for the upcoming school year. Please be mindful that a sibling is a brother or sister by blood, marriage, or adoption living in the same household (friends, cousins or two separate families living under the same roof do not qualify as siblings.) If your potential student does not have a student ID number please reach out to your boundary school to obtain one.

Attendance
Please note, we have implemented a Google form for submission of absences/late arrivals and notes. This form is the only acceptable method of communication and must be utilized for reporting absences/late arrivals and uploading doctor/medical notes ONLY for your student(s). With the exception of COVID reporting in which an email in addition to the absence form must be sent to Nurse Ann (sally.warf@pgcps.org), Dr. Fryson (tfryson@cmitelementary.org) and Mrs. Virgil (evirgil@cmitelementary.org). Hello Kindergarten Families,
We are looking forward to seeing all of our scholar’s Stem Fair projects, which are due on January 27, 2023. Please keep an eye out for a link for you to upload and submit your scholar’s Stem fair project from your scholar’s teacher.
Please check the weather daily, so your scholar is dressed appropriately for outdoor recess. Please make sure that you are reading any messages via dojo, class story, or emails pertaining to your scholar’s class.
*Homework is posted by the end of the day on Fridays, for the upcoming week. Please make sure that your scholar is completing their homework assignments, they are graded on completion weekly. If your scholar is in enrichment, please provide your scholar with a homework journal daily, so they can work on the assignments in enrichment.
We are looking for chaperons for an upcoming field-trip that we are planning for the kindergarten team. If you are interested, please make sure that you go through all the required steps to be fully cleared to volunteer. The date will be announced when we have confirmation.
We are looking forward to celebrating the 100th Day of School. We are asking that you create a 100th Day of school T-shirt for your scholar to wear.
It is that time of year for our winter testing…our Kindergartners will have MAP Reading, MAP Math Assessments, Dibels, and DRA. Please make sure that your scholar’s are well rested and eat a balanced breakfast so they can have a clear mind and be ready for the upcoming assessments.

100th Day of School February 7, 2023
If you signed your scholar up for clubs, their afternoon dismissal is for them to be in holding with the enrichment scholars. Please remember the days that your scholar is in a club, if they are usually a car or van rider, they will not be at their regular scheduled dismissal area. If for some reason, they are not to go to their club that day, please notify your scholar’s teacher ahead of time, so they can be at the correct dismissal location.
ELA: We are working on “sh” and “ch” word families. The sight words are: said and was, encourage your scholars to practice the sight words from the past and the present..
Math: We will complete our topic 8 assessment, which is decomposing numbers, looking for patterns when we break apart numbers. We will continue to use math manipulatives to assist with solving mathematical problems.
Science: We are reviewing all about weather and weather patterns, and how weather can change from day to day.Why does weather do what it does? Where does it come from?
Social Studies: We are reviewing why it is important to have a job? What types of jobs are there in the community? We will have a Social Studies test this week on jobs.
Health: We are talking about exercise and why it is important to do exercise. How does it keep our bodies healthy?
Friendly reminder: Class dojo is one of our main forms of communication for any classroom activities, events, and messages. Please make sure that you are connected to your scholar’s Class dojo. Teacher emails and the communication folder are other ways to stay connected as well.

Please provide a nut free snack for your scholar daily.
Your scholar should have a full set of extra change of clothes (uniform) that can be kept in their cubbies.
Please label all of your scholar’s items, sweaters, jackets, water bottles, lunch bags.
If your scholar’s form of transportation changes for dismissal, please complete the necessary forms and upload into the document, as well as notify your scholar’s teacher.

Greetings First Grade Families:
Please remember that if your dismissal plans change, notify your child's teacher via dojo as well as the front office before 1:00 p.m. on the day of the change.
Additionally, please ensure that your child is dressed warmly when they arrive to school in the mornings. We have outdoor recess at 10:20 a.m. if the temperature is at or above 32 degrees. It is important that students are dressed appropriately for the weather.

STEM Fair Students should have created a data chart to show the results of their scientific investigations. Students should be writing the conclusion of their investigation, acknowledging what they have learned and how the information can be used to help others.

Sensational Second Graders
We had an excellent week in second grade!
The aquarium was a blast! We saw so many different types of species.
In Reading, next week, we will explain and use text features to locate details in a text. The spelling patterns will be Long o: o, oa, ow. We will also be editing for commas in a series. In Math, we will begin topic 7. This topic is all about solving problems involving addition and subtraction.

Terrific Third Graders
In Reading this week we will be reviewing Unit 2: Interactions through games and plenty of practice. In Social Studies students will review Chapter 2: Economics components for Chapter test.
At this point in Math, scholars have had plenty of practice calculating equations. Next week we are working on rounding and estimating, which involves a lot of mental math.
In Science, we are towards the end of our topic on weather. Students have been learning about ways of predicting weather patterns, and will be expected to demonstrate this knowledge.

We strongly encourage parents to check SchoolMax weekly to stay abreast of your scholar's progress in all academic areas. Students can redo eligible assignments within a week of being posted. Weekly check-ins with your scholar about his/her grades is a great way to setting goals and reflecting on progress.
We are in need of hand sanitizers, disinfecting wipes, and facial tissues. The cold and flu season is upon us and we would like to continue to keep our classrooms germ free.
We do go outside for recess if weather permits and the feel like is above 32 degrees. Please ensure your scholar is dressed appropriately to be outside for recess with hats and coats.

The Fabulous 5th Grade Team: Ms. Tellis, Mrs. Moon, Mrs. Robinson, & Mrs. Linton Philp would like to thank you for your hard work this week and accomplishing great success as we continue throughout the school year and complete all reading and math units, science literacy and projects, writing assignments, and social studies adventures! It's been an intense semester and we are now headed toward the end of Quarter 2! Let's keep working hard and accomplishing greatness, Tigers! Tigers Roar!
RELA
This week in RELA, we finished Unit 2 Week 4 reading Tracking Monsters. Next, week we will be taking the MAP assessment. We are excited to see the progress our students have made! We will be beginning Unit 2 Week 5 reading 2 texts and synthesizing information.
Math
This week in Math, students will:
(1) use models to add and subtract mixed numbers.
(2) Use models and strategies to divide whole numbers.
Science
In Science, we are continuing "Patterns Over Time".
Social Studies
In Social Studies, we will finish Chapter 6 and complete the Assessment. We will migrate into Chapter 7 which delves into establishing our New Nation and setting the structures of government and how impacts the way the Industrial

Art
Greetings,
Tigers have presentations this week and next. Classes will primarily consist of independent work to finish their projects and critiques. Projects include portraits, landscapes, cityscapes, abstract, and other activities that develop their understanding of depth of field and value. We will continue to stress craftsmanship as a priority.
Music
Students in grades 3-5 are beginning their DAW (Digital Audio Workspace) units using the online audio editing software BandLab! Whether they are new to this process or if they’re just starting out, their creativity is already beginning to shine!
Grades K-2 are meeting or reviewing the instrument families: percussion, woodwind, brass, and strings. We’re using uncommon examples of instruments to identify these families based on where they vibrate.
Technology
K-2 practiced:
Meaning of Online: Interactive Practice
In this interactive learning experience, students improve their knowledge of vocabulary terms and definitions related to what it means to be online.
3-5 practiced:
Internet Usage: Research, Resources, and Ethics
In this engaging and interactive digital lesson, the learners receive direct instruction and practice using web sites for research as they validate online information and author credibility, and respect intellectual property by properly citing online resources.
PE
This week we will be working on our teamwork skills by playing a team game that requires communication amongst teammates and critical observation skills. Remember to send your scholar to school in athletic sneakers on days they have PE.
