Hola HHE Familia!

Thank you families for joining us this week for our PTA Meeting and Father/ Daughter Dance. We love you and encourage you to be a part of our community! Your child's teachers are busy preparing amazing lessons to get ready for our upcoming state assessments. You can help us by having your child read for 20 minutes a day. Teachers can also give you tips on what to practice with your children at home. You're children are setting goals in their classrooms, be sure to ask them to explain to you what they are working on! Have a wonderful week filled with love!

Gracias a las familias por acompañarnos esta semana en nuestra reunión de la PTA y el baile de padres e hijas. ¡Te amamos y te animamos a ser parte de nuestra comunidad! Los maestros de su hijo están ocupados preparando lecciones increíbles para prepararse para nuestras próximas evaluaciones estatales. Research shows us that early absences correlate with reading difficulties and poor attendance patterns in later years. Students can begin to reverse their academic difficulties if they improve their attendance. Being in school on time every day is important! Another thing that is important is having a home library.

We will be sending home books with all students this week. These are gently loved books from our library collection and our leveled reading collection. We want your child to keep the books he/she receives. They are for your library at home. You do not need to return them to school. We love putting books in the hands of our students.

• Invite a child to read with you every day.

• When reading a book where the print is large, point word by word as you read. This will help the child learn that reading goes from left to right and understand that the word he or she says is the word he or she sees.

• Read a child's favorite book over and over again.

• For readers, encourage independent reading 20 minutes per day.

We will be holding Second Semester Parent/ Teacher conferences on Friday, February 16, 2024. This is a great opportunity for you to get an update on your child’s progress this school year. Our teachers can’t wait to meet with you! Be on the lookout for more information and sign-up times from your child’s teacher.

Call pictures are this Wednesday, February 14th! Pictures are $12 and must be paid in advance. Order forms were sent home last week. Please call the office at 210-438-6860 for any questions!

Emergent Bilingual students in grades 2nd through 5th Dual Language classes, will participate in the state TELPAS test. The purpose of this test is to assess the level of English proficiency of your students. The Reading and Writing test will be administered on Tuesday, February 20th and the Listening and Speaking test will be administered on Wednesday February 21st. We appreciate your assistance in making sure your students are on time, well rested, and prepared to do their best on this exam!

Los estudiantes bilingües emergentes en los grados 2.° a 5.° clases de lenguaje dual participarán en la prueba estatal TELPAS. El propósito de esta prueba es evaluar el nivel de dominio del inglés de sus estudiantes. To ensure our 3rd - 5th grade students are prepared for STAAR Assessments. We will be taking a practice assessment the week of February 26, 2024. Please make sure your child is present on these days. Assessments begin at 8:05 a.m.

There will be No School, Friday, February 16, 2024 and Monday, February 19th. Please be sure to take some time to read, draw, or practice math skills with your child to help get them ready for upcoming assessments. We appreciate your support in ensuring your child is successful!

This is our year at HHE to receive free books from the SAISD Foundation through Book Buddies. The SAISD Foundation launched a brand-new Book Buddies Bus this year that will come to your campus fully loaded for each student on campus to receive up to 6 FREE books. The bus will visit between 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Friday, February 23. Be sure your child is present to receive their books!

Este es nuestro año en HHE para recibir libros gratis de la Fundación SAISD a través de Book Buddies. La Fundación SAISD lanzó este año un nuevo autobús Book Buddies que llegará a su campus completamente cargado para que cada estudiante en el campus reciba hasta 6 libros GRATIS. El autobús lo visitará entre las 9 a.m. y las 2 p.m. el viernes 23 de febrero. ¡Asegúrese de que su hijo esté presente para recibir sus libros!

Parents, we want to hear from you!!! The district will be conducting the annual Insight Survey that gives all families the opportunity to give feedback to the campus. Be on the lookout for links or QR codes that will be sent on February 19 to March 29. You may also come to the school to complete the survey. All participants will be eligible for a drawing to receive goodies for you and your families!

Our students have also been working on friendship bracelets for our incoming students from Forbes, Foster, and Highland Park. We will be delivering them to the campuses during Valentine’s week.
