Principal's Desk
Dear Parents,
I am so glad to be back in the swing of things. Our second quarter is coming to and end this week. It's so fun to see how much all of our students have grown since the beginning of the year. Report cards will be coming home January 20 along with our winter NWEA reports.
This next part is a repeat from the December newsletter, but it bears reminding because several of our students this week did not have their winter coats etc. and we do worry when we go out and our students are not dressed for the weather.
Winter weather is upon us in full swing. Please make sure your children are dressed for the weather. We go out for recess whenever the weather allows.
Also, again, we are beginning to transition away from the Remind App to the new FCSC Connect App. You can download the app for free on both Google Play or the Apple App Store.
Download for Android: https://bit.ly/2ID88X8

Stay updated with access to events, documents, news from administrators, student stories, and even emergency notifications.
Once installed and set up, receive early notifications of school delays and weather related closings. Here is the FCSC Connect video to view for more information: https://bit.ly/FCSCConnect
We have been really fortunate to keep mostly COVID free but we cannot let our guard down yet. Please continue your wellness checks at home. If you think you or your child has been a direct contact of someone who has tested positive for COVID we need a copy of their test results for the State reports we have to send in. Also, if our child is absent for any reason please call in each day to keep us updated.
Our only spring fund raiser is about to begin. We will be selling World's Finest Candy Bars. Information will be coming home soon. But please keep in mind if you sign up to sell candy bars we CANNOT take back unsold candy bars. You are responsible for the entire box of candy bars. This is a greet fundraiser for our PTO to carryout their projects in support of our students and teachers.
Sincerely,
Mrs. McCarty, Principal

Ms. Pfeiffer's Fourth Grade Class News
Welcome back and Happy New Year. I hope everyone had a wonderful break. I hope students are ready to FLY into 2021 as they continue to display great behavior by following classroom and school procedures, respecting others and doing their personal best.
In reading our students continue to learn and practice many skills such as finding text evidence, and responding to text based questions using R.A.C.E. Students are able to find the main idea and detail of a text as well as many other reading skills. We also learned to identify all 5 text structures authors use to write as well as how to use text features to help deepen and strengthen our understanding of what we are reading.
In 2020 students wrote a variety of narratives, informative and opinion essays. Students will continue to read from a text and from the text form an essay based on evidence and support from the text. Students had published several well organized essays in 2020.
IN math we continuing to sharpen our multiplication and division skills as well as develop a good understanding of fractions in the unit ahead of us. We will be identifying equivalent fractions, simplifying fractions, as well as adding and subtracting fractions .
In social studies we learned of Indiana’s 3 regions which included the demographics and location of each regions major characteristics. We learned many interesting facts of the first people to arrive in what is now Indiana. In science students have explored many forms of energy and how to use energy effectively.
I wish you all good health and I am excited in moving forward into the year 2021.
The Counseling Corner…
We have been busy in the Student Service’s Department. The best part of my job is getting to work with students. I have been going in to each classroom to teach lessons. In August I stopped in to introduce myself and explain what my role is in the school. In September I taught them about self-regulation and strategies to use in and out of school when their emotions are getting too BIG. October I delivered Anti-bullying lessons for each grade level. November and December were spent teaching children about body safety. It is great to be able to interact with Kindergarten-Sixth grade each month. Please visit our Virtual Office when you have time.
Best wishes in 2020,
Mrs. Branson, school counselor
