Soaring into Success! February 2, 2024

"A Weekly Roundup of Learning and Fun!"
Dear Dighton Elementary School Families,
We hope this message finds you all in good health as we step into the month of February, a crucial period in our school year. As we reflect on the past weeks, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated PTO volunteers who made the recent Book Fair a tremendous success. Your support truly makes a difference in creating enriching experiences for our students.
Our students are currently immersed in district benchmark assessments in both literacy and math. This ongoing process plays a pivotal role in shaping our instructional strategies, interventions, and personalized learning approaches. It allows us to understand each student's unique needs, ensuring that we can provide the best possible education tailored to their individual learning styles.
As we navigate the middle of the school year, our grade-level teams are actively collaborating to enhance curriculum delivery through the implementation of best practices. The hard work and dedication of our educators shine through, and we are grateful for their commitment to fostering a positive learning environment.
Your ongoing support is invaluable to our school community, and we appreciate your dedication to your child's education. If you have any questions or require further information about the upcoming events, please feel free to contact the school office.
Thank you for being active participants in your child's academic journey. We appreciate your partnership and eagerly anticipate the exciting events that February has in store for us.
Warm regards,
Mrs. Dessert, Mrs. Lima, and the entire School Staff 🌟🎈

Project Earth View
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We are excited to inform you that students in grades 1-4 will have the opportunity to take part in the Project Earth View presentation organized by Bridgewater State. This presentation aims to educate and create awareness among young minds about the importance of our planet and the geography of it.
The Project Earth View presentation will be held on Friday, 2/2 and 2/9. Classroom teachers will notify you about the specific date when your child's classroom is scheduled to attend the event. We encourage you to mark your calendars accordingly to ensure your child's participation.
To ensure the safety and smooth running of the event, we kindly request that you ensure your child wears socks to school on the designated day. Students without socks will not be able to attend the presentation due to the program's regulations.
If you would like to learn more about Project Earth View and the valuable work carried out by Bridgewater State, we encourage you to visit their website at https://www.bridgew.edu/center/case/earthview.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to Mrs. Lima. She will be more than happy to provide further information or clarify any queries you may have.
We are eagerly looking forward to this informative and engaging event for our students. Thank you for your support in ensuring they make the most of this fantastic learning opportunity.

From Central Office
Presidential Primary March 5th
Dear DES & DMS Communities,
In the interest of student and staff safety, I have made the decision to close both Dighton schools on Tuesday, March 5, 2024. Last spring, the Town of Dighton requested to use DES for the Presidential Primary to be held that day, pending School Committee approval.
I am concerned that the volume of traffic coming through the campus on a school day is unsafe for students and staff. I sincerely apologize that the District was not proactive about this issue. The School Committee made a policy change in recent years, and the District’s administration was not diligent and erred in approving the Town of Dighton’s request without first getting the committee’s approval.
It is my responsibility to ensure that all staff adhere to policy, and I pledge that we will be better in this regard. The last day of school for DES and DMS (pending no snow days or other cancellations) will be an Early Release schedule on Thursday, June 20, 2024. This does not impact the high school whose last day is currently scheduled for June 18.
I regret any inconvenience that this miscommunication may cause to the staff, students, and families of our Dighton schools; however, the traffic associated with the Primary poses significant logistical and safety issues. My team and I have discussed this with leaders in all four of our bargaining units, and they have graciously understood our situation. I'm grateful for their collaboration.
Have a good evening.
Together, we are DR!
