Woody's Wrap Up

September 29, 2023
Thank You!
What a wonderful two weeks of Booster! The students enjoyed the character lesson videos, grade level & class incentives, and the Fun Run was a huge success! We couldn't do it without your generous support! Because of our WHE families and students, we reached our goal!!! The students raised over $37,000! 😊 We are very proud of ALL of our students and their efforts to run laps to raise funds for our school! Thank you to all of the volunteers and parents who helped to make the "Fun Run" special for all of our students! We appreciate each of you! Together, We Make a Team!
We still need a couple of Room Parent Volunteers. Please consider helping out!

News from the Nurse
When we return from Fall Break I will begin the yearly Hearing/Vision/Height/Weight and Diabetes screenings. The screenings are for Kindergarten, 1st grade, 3rd grade, 5th grade and any students that are new to the district this year. If your student has contacts or glasses please make sure they are wearing them as recommended.
Sending a water bottle with your student to school everyday is so important to help keep them hydrated (as we know it is still hot in South Texas in the fall!) But even more important is to clean them thoroughly at home. A lot of water bottles have parts and pieces that need to be completely broken down to get a really good clean on them. This picture is the mouthpiece of a straw that comes out of the water bottle and should be removed for proper cleaning. Please, please, please check all pieces of your student’s water bottles and give them a thorough cleaning. Thank you!!

WHE Playground Equipment in Rwanda
Humble ISD partnered with Project Playground to rehome our former equipment at a school in Rwanda this summer. Check out these students playing on their new equipment for the first time.
Fall Spiritwear
Our annual fall spiritwear sale is now open! This year, options include a crewneck sweatshirt, long sleeve t-shirt, and two options for short sleeve t-shirt. You can use the link provided to pre-order during the break, and students will bring home paper order forms when they return from break. All orders must be placed online by Friday, October 20th. No late orders will be accepted.
Watch how our Humble ISD Education Foundation is making a pawsitive impact in our schools! We've awarded grants to train comfort dogs on various campuses across the district. These furry friends are here to provide support, reduce anxiety, and bring smiles to our students and staff. Join us on this heartwarming journey as we share the incredible stories of these four-legged heroes and their role in creating a comforting environment in our district.

4th Grade Choir Opportunity
I'm happy to announce that I will be starting an after school Choir for any 4th grader interested in joining. This club will meet on Wednesdays beginning October 25th from 3:30-4:15. They will have several choir performances throughout the year. Their first performance will be during the 4th Grade Christmas Program on December 12th.
What are 4th Grade Choir Expectations?
***Come to practice: Any absences should be reported to Mrs. Heyl either through a note or email. If the participant has more than 2 unexcused absences, he/she will be asked to not participate in the upcoming performance.
***After school behavior: 3 R behavior is also expected at after school practices. Anyone having trouble with following the school rules will have their parents notified. If the behavior continues, he/she will be asked not to participate in the choir activities.
How will my child go home?
***All 4th Graders will exit out the back cafeteria door (Door 6) promptly at 4:15. A car rider line can be formed just like dismissal. I will also dismiss any bikers or walkers from those same back cafeteria doors. Any 4th Grader interested in joining the 4th Grade Choir will need to fill out the form.
5th Grade Dynamites Opportunity
It is a tradition at Woodland Hills Elementary to have an extracurricular 5th grade musical group. This group is called the "Dynamites". Any 5th grader is welcome to join this after school club. The "Dynamites" are a choir/musical theater group. They will perform as a choir for various events throughout the year. Their first performance will be at the KPark "Holiday in the Park" on November 4th. They will perform at the WHE Holiday Singalong and Spring Talent Show. Their musical theater performance for the year will take place in May where they will be performing "Annie, Jr."
Who should be a "Dynamite"? All Dynamites should love to perform, learn new things, and most importantly have a positive, upbeat attitude. There is singing, dancing, choreography, and acting in our various performances throughout the year.
What are "Dynamite" Expectations?
***Come to practice: Any absences should be reported to Mrs. Heyl either through a note or email. If the participant has more than 3 unexcused absences, he/she will be asked to not participate in the upcoming performance.
***After school behavior: 3 R behavior is also expected at after school practices. Anyone having trouble with following the school rules will have their parents notified. If the behavior continues, he/she will be asked not to participate in Dynamite activities.
Fall practices will be Thursdays after school from 3:30-4:30 beginning October 12th. 5th graders may participate in both the Ukulele Club and Dynamites. They will be performing together at Kpark on 11/4.
Safety Patrol Students
***All Safety Patrol students can come to the music room when their duty is over. Please do your Safety Patrol job! Dynamites is not an excuse to miss Safety Patrol!!!!
How will my child go home?
***All Dynamites will exit out the back cafeteria doors (Door 6) promptly at 4:30. A car rider line can be formed just like dismissal. I will also dismiss any bikers or walkers from those same back cafeteria doors.
Each participant must fill out the attached permission slip form. I can’t wait for another “Dynamite” year!
Campus & Lunch Visitors
All visitors should use the front doors and check in with the WHE Front Office upon arrival to campus. Please be prepared to provide your identification/license to our receptionist when visiting WHE. All visitors must wear their WHE Visitor badge in a visible place while in the building, and must check out with the front office upon departure.
In order to maintain safety and not disrupt our learning environment, guests are only permitted to visit the specific area they have signed in for. This may include the main office, clinic, meeting rooms, cafeteria, or other designated areas. Visitors are not allowed on our playgrounds during recess, and may not visit classrooms or academic spaces without prior authorization from WHE administration. Thank you for helping to keep our campus safe!
Cafeteria Reminders
In addition to the above procedures, we ask that all cafeteria guests be respectful of the following guidelines when visiting the WHE cafeteria:
Guests are required to sit at the special "guest" tables located in the center of the cafeteria and should only sit with their child.
Lunch guests may not walk around the cafeteria to visit with other students and may not share/purchase food for any other students except their own.
In order to avoid crowding, visitors may be asked to wait in the front foyer until it is lunch time. Lunch visitors must check out with the front office when their child's lunch is over.

Student Attendance
To avoid absences being marked as unexcused, parents must notify the school that their child is absent. Parents must provide the parent note to the campus within 48 hours of the student’s return to school. If your child is out due to an appointment, please submit a doctor's note to the office, so that coding in eSchool can be updated accurately.
Absences can be reported each time your child is absent by:
- Online Absence Excuse Form
- Absence Line available (24 hours) 281-641-1519
- Excuse note returned with student following absence and given to the front office
- E-mail to our Attendance Specialist at: carolyn.quinn@humbleisd.net
Students arriving after 8:00am should report to the front office prior to going to their classrooms. We ask that students arriving after 8:30 are checked into the front office by a parent/guardian. Daily attendance is taken at 9:05AM.
