Hubbard Guardians,


We had another great week at Hubbard Middle School! Students finished up taking their iReady RLA diagnostic assessment that will help determine their best path through the online program. Next week they will take the math portion. Please read the information below, ESPECIALLY the first bullet point about assemblies from this week:


Assemblies - We had grade level assemblies where we discussed MANY different things. As guardians, I want you to know these are the topics we covered so you can follow up with your Husky:


  • Cell phones - We are going to follow the cell phone policy this year. You can find it in the Hubbard Guardian Handbook. Please remind your students their phones should be off and in their backpack during the instructional day.
  • Tardies - morning tardies count! Students need to be in their classrooms at 8:20a.m. Each week we will run a tardy report and assign consequences for those students that can't make it to class on time.
  • Dress code - Again, this can be found in the Hubbard Guardian Handbook and has been one of our biggest fights. We desperately ask for your assistance in making sure your students are in dress code so we can keep them in class.
  • Lunches - On Monday, students will have free seating in the cafeteria. We will assess how that is going with each grade level independently. We don't want to go back to assigned seating, but that depends on behaviors.
  • Chromebooks - Every key stroke on your child's chromebook is tracked by software that reports activity to the district. Please make sure they understand safe searching.
  • Vapes and fighting - The state of Texas is taking vapes so serious that possession is now an automatic DAEP (district alternative education program) placement. If students are caught with vapes or are fighting, we will remove them from campus. Please coach your students on this.

Students will take the math diagnostic test under the new "I-Ready" program. This will help us with knowing their learning strengths and weaknesses.

Thursday, August 31st - Volleyball vs Lufkin. Both 7th/8th A and B play. 5:30/6:30 at Tyler Legacy High School

Thursday, September 7th - 7th/8th A/B volleyball vs Forest Park. 5/6pm at Forest Park

Small group instruction

Students in Mrs. Davis' & Miss. Orlowski's 6th grade RLA class co-created expectations for small groups, using a fun simulation titled, The Villain. Students worked together to determine their choices and then co-created their expectations in the debrief. Awesome job, Huskies! We are The PACK!

Sixth Grade AVID

Sixth grade AVID students collaborate to create their group social contracts, using an acrostic format. WICOR + Positive Classroom Culture = Successful Student Outcomes! We Are The PACK!

Band

Beginning band students explore their instruments for the first time. Instructors show students the basics and model proper technique. Great job Huskies! We are the PACK!

Pantry Raid Time!!!

Students can bring canned goods ALL week long to help benefit the East Texas Food Bank. They are offering free Kona Ice for campus with highest number of pounds raised per student.

Future Red Raider Night! - October 27th

Calling all of our 6th grade future Red Raiders! Please join us for Tyler Legacy Future Red Raider Night sponsored by Whataburger. Come out and support your Tyler Legacy Football team at middle school night. Wear your Red & Black, meet us at 6:35 PM to run through the tunnel and then stay to cheer on our Red Raiders. We are offering free admission to the game for our students with the purchase of a Future Red Raider T-shirt AND a paying adult admission. (Purchase of the shirt is not required to run through the tunnel.) T-shirts may be purchased using THIS LINK.
