Every Day Counts - Attendance Information
Why attendance matters
One of the most important things your child can do to achieve academic success is also one of the most basic: going to school every day.
Students with regular attendance are more likely to do well in school and graduate on time.
Missing even 2 days of school in a month can create serious gaps in understanding math at any age.
Middle and high school students who miss too many days fail classes and are unlikely to graduate.
A student who is absent two days a month misses an equivalent of nearly one & a half years of their schooling.

Hats, Coats, and Gloves Please
With the recent return of colder weather, we want to remind families that students should dress for the daily weather conditions. Students have outside recess every day. Only when the temperatures are extremely cold or when the rain blows sideways do students stay inside.
Winter Weather Notifications and Snow Bus Route Information
As the weather turns colder, it is time to prepare for the possibility of weather-related school closures or delays. We do our best to make sure all students can get to school safely and to protect school teaching time as much as possible. We have to look at a lot of factors: actual and predicted weather, the difference between the hills and Newberg itself, staff being able to safely make it in from out of our area, etc. Sometimes this means a cancellation or a delay even when things in Newberg look fine.
ParentLink Notification:
Newberg Public Schools uses our mass-notification system to send emails, texts, and phone calls to all families. Now is a good time to notify your student’s school office if your phone or email has changed.
We also subscribe to FlashAlert (http://www.flashalert.net/news.html?id=115) which notifies television and radio stations of any delay or closure.
Finally, we update our social media pages to notify of delays or closures:
- Facebook: https://business.facebook.com/NewbergPublicSchools/
- Twitter: https://twitter.com/NewbergSchools
- Instagram: @newbergschooldistrict
Snow Routes - Buses
Sometimes conditions require bus routes to be modified to snow routes. Buses take shortened routes that avoid areas that are treacherous in slippery weather. This year, two routes have been changed because gravel roads have been paved. This is wonderful in good weather, but actually more difficult in slippery weather. You can see all of the snow routes on our web page: https://www.newberg.k12.or.us/district/snow-routes
