Thompson Friday Forecast
February 2, 2024
From the Principal... Matt Clark
Well, it took until February, but we finally had our first full week of 2024. It was also great to have a full day of sunshine in over a month yesterday. It seemed to inject an energy into the building that was very welcomed.
Last Friday I sent out an email regarding a safety concern at Thompson. As a parent who has received similar messages from my own children’s schools I recognize that such general communications can sometimes lead to more questions than answers. Compound that with the fact that middle school rumors are the social currency of preteens and teens and you end up with the powder keg we had this past week. In reflection, I wanted to share the following commitments so that all Thompson parents and guardians can hold me to them moving forward.
The safety and security of your children is my #1 priority as principal of Thompson Middle School.
My goal coming into this position was to develop relationships and build trust throughout the Thompson community with students, staff and parents. All of my efforts are designed to work towards that goal.
If you are ever worried or unsure about something your child shares with you, or something you see or hear, please reach out to me matthew.clark@d303.org and I’d be happy to give you a call and have a conversation.
I recognize with an ever-growing culture of mistrust throughout society, asking for trust is a huge ask. But please know that all my efforts go towards making Thompson Middle School a place where you’re proud to send your children.
Here’s hoping for calmer seas ahead…have a wonderful weekend!

Please Complete the Illinois 5 Essentials Survey
Dear TMS Parents and Guardians:
One of the ways I get feedback is through the Illinois 5 Essentials Survey. Each year parents take this survey to let us know how we are doing as a school, and how I am doing as a leader.
Can you please take 10 minutes to complete this survey? I like to get to about 50% of our parents/guardians taking this survey, so the sooner we hit that target, the sooner I can quit asking you!
Here is the link to the survey. It is in Spanish and English.
Please be sure to put in Kane County as our county so you can find Thompson. Also, please read the questions and possible answers carefully as they sometimes mix up the "importance" of the responses.
Thank you in advance!

St Charles North Peer Leadership
SCN is a great place, but it’s also a big place. Peer Leadership (PL) hopes to make the transition to high school more comfortable and fun, while offering opportunities for growth.
The goals of Peer Leadership are to:
Match incoming freshmen with selected upperclassmen mentors.
Foster lasting friendships and bonds between the freshmen, their mentors, and the kids in their PL Groups.
Improve freshmen self-confidence and self-advocacy.
Prepare freshmen to become participants in clubs, sports, classes, and other activities at SCN.
Prepare freshmen for future leadership roles.
PL Students meet together in groups every day. PL is formally added to student schedules and takes the place of lunch/ study hall. There are weekly themes that are educational, informative, supportive, and fun. PL also attends a day of teambuilding “Camp”, has several “all PL” activities during the year, and meets together in groups both formally and informally.
We would like to be able to offer PL to all interested incoming freshmen, but our numbers are limited. In order to start the selection process, interested students (or their parents) should fill out this:
Fill out this FORM if you're interested in PL
