Principal's Weekly Communication
Sunday, November 5, 2023
Dear NW Parents,
We would like to inform you that the Principal's Office is inviting NW students to actively participate and contribute their time in various ways, while also earning iCare credit hours. This engagement is designed to help our school run smoothly and provide students with valuable experiences.
Tasks for Student Involvement:
Assisting with miscellaneous projects
Pulling students from class when necessary
Organizing office spaces
Receiving deliveries or items from the dock
Distributing invitations and or paperwork to other Departments
Writing passes for students
Greeting guests at Door 1
Receiving and distributing food deliveries
Scanning paperwork
Setting & clearing up school wide events
We also have a fun task: helping find the Principal, adding a touch of humor to the students' involvement.
Please note that students can sign up for these tasks during their study hall, lunch, or before and after school. Their participation is greatly appreciated.
If you have any questions or concerns about your child's involvement, please feel free to reach out to us. This is an excellent opportunity for students to develop valuable skills and make a positive impact on our school community.
Thank you for your ongoing support of our school.

A message from our Assistant Principal of Operations:
Please see the following message sent to students and teachers in regards to hallway sweeps.
Monday, November 6, 2023, we will be implementing a series of periodic hallway sweeps throughout the remainder of the semester. These hallway sweeps will occur at unannounced times and locations within the school building. Our primary goal is to encourage students to stay in class and minimize disruptions during instructional time.
Students found in the hallways without the required passes during these sweeps will be issued detentions. We want to ensure that all students are aware of this initiative, and we will notify both parents and students through email to keep everyone informed about the hallway sweeps.
Late Bus Schedule Update
Beginning Wednesday, November 8, all buses will pick up at 8:45 am on Late Start Days. Here is the bus route information.

Students in Dena Lichterman's College Prep: Social Justice and Equity classes spent the day at the Greater Chicago Food Depository, where they wrapped and boxed apples to distribute to people who are food insecure. They packed 2,660 lbs. of apples, which is 2,216 meals, which means they each did 117 meals per volunteer! After, the students ate lunch at Misericordia, a community that supports adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Student Food Deliveries to Niles West
This is a reminder that food deliveries to students at Niles West High School during the school day are not permitted. This includes food deliveries from all food delivery services, such as, Uber Eats, GrubHub, etc., and parents/guardians.
If a student orders food to the school, security will take the ordered food to the Deans’ Office. Students will be allowed to pick up their order at the end of the school day. Students will receive the appropriate
consequences if they continue to order food to the school, such as, a phone call home, a detention, extended detention, etc.
Security concerns: food deliveries compromise the safety protocols that are put in place to keep the school a safe environment.
Liability concerns: allows for non-students to gain access to the building through the use of unauthorized doors/locations.
Disruption to the school day: students are in the hallways without a pass, increased foot traffic, being in unauthorized areas and at times, loss of instructional time.
Our primary concern is the safety of our students and staff. Our priority is maintaining a safe and conducive learning environment.
Thank you for your attention to this matter,
