From the Director's Desk......
By my count, we are halfway through the 3-week session. And while the whirlwind of the 3-week still catches me off-guard, I am thoroughly enjoying working with a small group of masked humans in an in-person setting. Covid is everywhere, right? And I will admit to finding it hard to think beyond or around it sometimes. Still, learning with students, engaging ideas, and thinking about the world's possibilities has reminded me that the world is bigger than Covid. At least that is the perspective that I am going to try to hold onto as we move further into the semester.
Below are a few items of interest for faculty and staff for the coming year. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions, suggestions, or concerns. All things CPPSET may be found on our Google Site and I can be reached by phone at x2853 or at my individual email (justadmj@guilford.edu) or via the center's email address (cppset@guilford.edu).
2021-2022 CPPSET Educational Development Grants
Internal grants for educational development are available for all teaching faculty. A complete list of the funding sources and their respective application criteria can be found here. The online application can be found here.
Applications are accepted on a continuing basis but are evaluated and funded following four submission deadlines: Sept 30th, November 30th, March 30th, and May 30th. We will send out reminders closer to the deadlines but please keep these dates in mind as you plan your work for the year.
We are fortunate to have the continuing financial support from our PPS Endowment and our Mellon Grant for Edge related faculty development. These $1,000 grants are available to support projects in four areas as described in this document.
The PPS Endowment continues to offer educational development grants for faculty and staff for work that advances values-based teaching and learning. Support for individuals, departments, or programs are described on the Center's Grant Applications page.
Note: The range of grants and those eligible to receive them has expanded and the term "Educational Development Grants" is now being used in place of "Faculty Development Grants".
Upcoming Events and Workshops
Faculty Lunch Returns!
All faculty are eligible to join their colleagues for lunch in the cafeteria each Wednesday beginning on September 1st. A sign-in sheet will be available at the front door (we hope it is comprehensive but please add your name to the list if you do not find it) and the Gilmer Room is reserved for faculty use. Occasional use of this time for announcements for structured discussions is possible but most Wednesday's it is simply a time to share a meal with your colleagues. Lunch is available in the "Caf" from 11am-2:00pm. All required covid safety protocols will be observed, of course.
Fall 2021 Faculty Development Workshops
September 28th, October 19th, and November 16
3:00pm - 4:30pm
The dates for our Faculty Development Workshops have been set. Topics and presenters are still being finalized. And, of course, we will utilize Zoom as necessary and hope for a return to safe in-person sessions as soon as possible. Please submit your ideas for workshop topics to us at cppset@guilford.edu.
Fall CPPSET Board of Advisors Meeting
