Referendum Building Projects Update

The North Crawford School District has finalized the selection of projects to be completed within Phase 1 and Phase 2 of our $4.5 million facility referendum. These projects will bring our building and grounds up to date, and address any state and federal regulations that the district was not meeting.

The school building still has the original 1992 and 1996 ballasted roof. The old ballast and membrane will be removed. Insulation will be replaced as needed, an underlayment will be installed, and a new semi-adhered membrane will be installed. The new roof should save the district thousands of dollars a year in maintenance and energy costs.

The district will be removing the upper exterior stucco walls, and replacing those with a horizontal steel siding in a complimentary color to the existing brick. Replacement of the EIFC will prevent further leakage into the building, as well as give the building a more modern look and design.

The district will replace all exterior ground floor and second floor windows with new, energy efficient, horizontal slide windows.

The district will add four brand new family style bathrooms. Additionally, the district will renovate all shower rooms in the building. One new bathroom will be located behind the large gym, with three bathrooms located off the cafeteria and performance center. Both projects will bring the district up to code and will meet all Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance.

The district will be tearing out the old asphalt parking lots, and replacing the north (staff), west (student), and south (staff) asphalt lots with new concrete parking lots.

The total cost of all Phase 1 projects is estimated at $3,681,164. This cost includes construction contingency, construction management fees, and design costs. This leaves the district with an estimated $818,836 remaining to address Phase 2 projects.

Phase 1 projects are scheduled to begin May 22, and conclude by the time school starts again on September 1st.

The district previously worked with Kraemer Bros. in the construction of the new school in 1990-91, and the building addition in 1996. We are happy to support and partner with several western and southwestern Wisconsin subcontractors to complete work on our Phase 1 projects. Local subcontractors that will be on site completing work this summer include Hall Ceilings out of Eastman; La Crosse Glass out of La Crosse; Showen Excavating out of Gays Mills; Winona Heating and Ventilation out of La Crosse; McCormick Electric out of Gays Mills; and Kraemer Bros. Construction out of Plain.
