Welcome!

Dear Morrill Elementary Families and Friends,

I am so excited to welcome you to the 2022-23 school year at Morrill Schools! I'm sure these final days of summer break have you busy trying to soak in every last bit of family time as well as prepare for the school days that are coming soon. This summer has been one of transition for me too, as I left the classroom after 30 years of teaching and moved into the principal's office. The school building has been a busy place with lots of teachers stopping in to prepare for the year, new staff members coming in to get acquainted, and our custodial staff working hard to have the building ready for kids. I am so thankful to work with such amazing people who are dedicated to providing a safe, fun and engaging learning environment for our children. We look forward to seeing you this week and to a great year of learning at Morrill Elementary!

Back to School Bash!

The Back to School Bash is tomorrow evening, August 15. We hope you will join us in the Elementary Building for our Open House from 5:00-6:00 pm. Here are a few highlights:


  • Teacher Reveal! Find out who your teacher is for the coming school year!
  • Stop by and say hi to the new principal!
  • Meet and Greet - Visit your classroom and meet your new teacher!
  • Bring your supplies! If you have your school supplies, feel free to bring them in. If not, you can bring them to school with you at the end of the week.
  • Turn in any office paperwork that isn't on file (birth certificates, immunizations, etc.).
  • Sign up for Bloomz accounts and the PTO!

New Reading Curriculum!

We have a brand new reading curriculum that was purchased with ESSER grant money. It has a ton of new books that our kids will love!

New Handbook!

Over the summer, we worked on a new and improved MES Handbook for parents and students. It will be available on the school website. We hope it is more informative and helpful as we go through the school year.

Thank You Morrill PTO!

The Morrill PTO has purchased a new, super cool Gaga Ball Pit! Our students LOVED gaga ball last year but this pit and pad will help it to be safer and less slippery. It's set to arrive at the end of August!

Staff Spotlight

Fast Facts about Mrs. Lackey

  • I was born in St. Paul, Minnesota.
  • I grew up in Lyman and graduated from Lyman High School...go Wildcats!
  • I went to college at WNCC, the University of Northern Colorado and then earned my Master's degree at Chadron State College.
  • My husband Chuck and I have been married for 31 years.
  • Our family includes our son Taylor and his wife, Malia and our daughter Shalyn.
  • Dogs and horses are my favorite animals. We have three dogs in our family (Hemi, Duke and Reggie) and two horses (Luke and Blondie).
  • Spending time with family, hiking, and horseback riding are some of my favorite things to do in the summertime!
