Read Across America

Each day the week of March 4th we will celebrate a different Dr. Seuss book with dress days. A note will go home in next Tuesday Express for families.

Each day will focus on a different book.

• Monday - The Lorax: wear orange or a mustache.
• Tuesday - Green Eggs and Ham: wear green.
• Wednesday - Fox in Socks: wear crazy socks.
• Thursday - I Can Read with My Eyes Shut: wear a shirt that others can read.
• Friday - Oh, the Places You'll Go: wear a college shirt.

Our theme for the week is MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE. I will be reading the following Seuss books in the library that have this theme.

• Horton Hears a Who!
• Sneetches
• Thidwick and the Big Hearted Moose
• Yertle the Turtle

I am activitely scheduling guest readers for the week. So far Mr. Washington, former asst. superintendent, will come on March 5th to read to our students. I am awaiting answers from others. If you have a community member that you can contact that you think would enjoy coming to read to our students, please let me know.

Once I have the final schedule for readers, I will send that out for you to sign your class up for a time slot.

Hillside Library will host our third annual Read-A-Thon starting on February 267th and ending March 11th. Information was placed in your boxes. The top page is the teacher login information so that you can log reading minutes for your class.

There will be prizes for:

• the class that logs the most reading minutes within those two weeks.
  
• the student from each grade level that logs the most individual minutes.
• the student from each grade level that has the most donations.

I will discuss this in the library with the students, but please promote it from the classroom as well.
