Have you seen our Book Room?

Students in Ms. Mulligan's second-grade class went to the book room on Friday! Students in this class, like many others, trade out books every Friday. Thanks to our PTO and grants funded through the Marshfield Education Foundation the DWS Book Room is filled with lots of great titles for students to practice their reading skills. Thank you to our reading staff, Mrs. McBride, Ms. Breton, and our building substitute Ms. Nunes for keeping it so organized and inviting!

Grade 5 Virtual Field Trip

The 5th graders went on a live virtual field trip with Lauren Tarshis, the author of the I Survived series. She shared information from her trip to Wellington, Washington where she conducted research for her latest book I Survived the Wellington Avalanche of 1910. Our fifth graders read about this historic event from her article in our Storyworks magazine and were invited to join her today. She also answered questions about her life as an author and shared her advice for young authors.

Do you have a fun fact or a favorite thing you would like to share about yourself? I am a huge fan of 50s and 60s music and I routinely force my family to listen to oldies like Elvis Presley while I’m cooking dinner or making coffee on the weekends.

News from the Nurse

We have had a great start to the school year!

Just a reminder -

Please remember to send your students to school with a reusable water bottle and filling snack daily!

  • All students have a snack break during the day. Please pack a healthy snack EVERY DAY! Great snacks include easy to eat fruits and veggies like apples, oranges, carrots and cucumbers as well as whole grain snacks including granola bars, crackers. Cheese sticks and yogurts are another great option. These ideas help keep hungry bellies at bay and students ready to learn!

  • Have your child bring a water bottle (or two) from home EVERY DAY. Students are able to use the bottle filling stations throughout the day to refill bottles as needed.

General Information

  • Mandated Health Screening Information:

    • The following state-mandated screenings of students will be completed this year by the school nurse.

      • Grades PK thru 5: Vision Screening (October - December)

      • Grade PK thru 3: Hearing Screening (October - December)

      • Postural screening for grade 5 in October - a letter will be sent home with more information.

      • Grades 1, 4: Heights and weights with BMI calculations per DPH regulations (October -December)

    • A parent/guardian may opt out of these mandated screenings only through written notification to the school nurse by October 8th.

    • These are only screenings and NOT a diagnostic service. Failures or concerns regarding the results will warrant further assessment by the child's physician. Specific recommendations will be sent home in writing/phone call for vision, hearing and postural screening.

    • Don’t hesitate to reach out at anytime - 781-834-5045, ext 42500 or via email - kAcampbell@mpsd.org

  • All GRADE 4 students must send in a physical exam dated within the past year. Thank you to those who have already sent in their forms.

  • Please log in to your child’s Aspen account and update the medication consent portion, this is something that needs to be done yearly. *This cannot be done on your handheld device/cell phone*

  • All medical documentation can be faxed to 781-834-5072 to the attention of the School Nurse.

  • Do not hesitate to call with any school health-related questions or concerns at 781-834-5045. I can also be reached by email at: kAcampbeLL@mpsd.org.

DWS Security Updates

A double door entry system with a security window was added to the DWS.

As a security measure, we will not be letting visitors into the building unless you are volunteering. Visitors who have a scheduled meeting will wait in the vestibule and be escorted by the host to the meeting.

All visitors must present a valid ID - no exceptions! We understand that we know many parents/guardians, but we will be requiring ALL visitors to present their ID when they volunteer and/or pick up a student - EVERY TIME. This will be frustrating at first, but we are working hard to maintain the safety of our students.

Arrival & Dismissal Protocols

Please review the most up-to-date arrival and dismissal protocol. We have made some changes to the existing policy in order to keep students, drivers, and staff safe.

The new policy can be found here.

School Supplies

We will be providing all the materials your student needs to have a successful year! We will only be asking families of students in grades 1-5 to purchase headphones for the upcoming school year.
