Solon PreK-5
AUGUST 2020 NEWSLETTER
MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
For those I have not had the pleasure of meeting yet, my name is Jessica Tabor and I am the PreK-5 principal. Despite the challenges ahead, I am so very excited for the opportunity to lead both buildings and continue my journey here in Solon.
I wanted to take a few minutes to introduce myself, as well as share a few things about this upcoming school year. While I know it is not the school year we all imagined, we will continue to put every effort in ensuring a safe, healthy, and supportive environment for our students, staff, and families.
You can expect a newsletter like this one at the beginning of every month. The goal is to provide updates, happenings, and important dates to all PreK-5 families. I hope you find the newsletters helpful and informative.
Remember that we are always stronger together!
ABOUT THE PRINCIPAL
I love being in education! It is the most challenging and rewarding career, and I love every minute of it! My previous roles include classroom teacher (2nd & 3rd), PreK-5 instructional coach, and High School Assistant principal in Southeast Iowa school districts. I hold a bachelors degree in psychology, a Masters in Elementary Education, and a Masters in Educational Leadership. I am driven, reflective, and passionate about providing supportive, quality education to all students.
As we navigate through this unprecedented school year, I encourage you to reach out to me at anytime with questions, concerns, and/or feedback. I am here to support you in anyway that I can, so my door is always open.
MEET THE SCHOOL MANAGER
Dear Lakeview and SIS families,
I feel so fortunate and blessed to be assisting Mrs. Tabor at Lakeview and SIS next year in the School Manager role. This will be my third year in the Solon district and I am starting my ninth year in the field of education. Before Solon, I have taught science at the high school and middle school levels in Atlantic and Grinnell. These experiences have rounded me into a person who is very passionate about education, students and the communities they serve. My fiancée and I love the community of Solon and I am extremely excited to continue working in the best district in the state. I love to meet new people and would enjoy a conversation with any parent, student or stakeholder who would like to get to know me further. Please reach out.
Go Spartans!
A NOTE FROM THE NURSE
Preschool & Kindergarten Updates:
Regardless of which learning opportunity your family chooses (on-site or on-line), all state required forms are due by the first day of school for your child to attend public education.
If you are unable to complete these state requirements due to insurance or delays of appointments due to COVID-19, please contact me to discuss minimal requirements to start school on time.

All students entering 3rd grade are required to complete a vision screening. To be valid, a vision screening shall be performed no earlier than one year prior to the date of enrollment and no later than six months after the date of child’s enrollment into Third Grade. A vision screening may be conducted by a physician, advanced nurse practitioner, physician assistant, local public health department, public or accredited nonpublic school, community based organization—Lions Club, free clinic, or child care center.
