Wyandot Hawks Quarterly Newsletter
November 2022
Note From the Principal
Dear Families,
As we begin our 2nd quarter, we hope our students take time to reflect on their individual accomplishments that have taken place with hard work and dedication over the last two months.
Report Cards will be posted in your Parent Portal on Friday, November 11th. We will no longer be sending home paper copies. If you do not have a Parent Portal account established or need assistance logging in, please contact the Wyandot Office. Success for your student increases with good communication between school, student and parent. If you should have questions at any time, feel free to contact teachers, counselors and/or administration through email or by phone for assistance.
We recognize the importance of supporting all our students in identifying and working towards reaching their goals. Wyandot teachers and support staff are here to help students progress through the year both academically and socially. We are proud of the various programs and efforts made by our Wyandot staff, including Positive You, Counselor Minute Meetings and the various sports, clubs and activities that students are able to take part in to help them feel connected at school. Thanksgiving will be here soon and I know that I am extremely thankful for the staff that make all these opportunities possible.
Speaking of our staff, some of your students may have noticed that one of our assistant principals, Mr. Finlayson, has not been in the building over the past few weeks. During a routine check-up, an EKG raised concern and Mr. Finlayson was sent to the hospital where he underwent open-heart surgery. Mr. Finlayson is doing well and in recent communication asked that we share "he misses his administrative team, the Wyandot staff, and most of all, our students." Please keep Mr. Finlayson in your thoughts as he recovers in the coming weeks. We are in the process of naming a Teacher-In-Charge to assist with administrative duties during his medical leave.
Wishing our Wyandot students a successful 2nd quarter!
Mrs. Kozouz
Proud Principal
Note from the Assistant Principals
Hawk Families,
I want to thank you all for supporting Wyandot Middle School's Hawk Walk fundraiser! We were fortunate to exceed our goal raising over $25,000! Thank you to our volunteers who helped organize a successful and fun event for our students! Students will receive the prizes for the tier they reached in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for more information on the 7-11 and MJR field trips for students who qualified!
Monies raised will be used to support our students through resources and initiatives. Currently, teachers have the opportunity to request these funds to purchase resources for their classrooms. In addition, funds are allocated to purchase student incentives to reinforce our Positive Behavior program and implement programs such as Positive You.
Positive You is a school-wide initiative to help students set goals and become the best versions of themselves! Talk to your students about their involvement in Positive You!
Looking forward to a successful second quarter as our students set personal and academic goals. To the right is a picture of me at my recent graduation earning a Education Specialist degree, my second post-graduate degree in K-12 Administration from Oakland University.
Sincerely,
Mrs. DeLuca

Parking Lot
As we continue to navigate through the busy Wyandot traffic, please pack your patience! Students must exit cars at the drop off curb. Do not have students exit your car anywhere besides our sidewalk, especially on the main street of Garfield! Also, when students exit while stopped in our parking lot, it causes a large backup to the process. Most importantly, this is not safe for your child. It is also critical that cars do not use our bus loop/exit to leave our parking lot. Busses need access to this, and it is not safe to have cars driving through preventing this traffic flow. Please do your part to keep our students and staff safe at arrival and departures.
IMPORTANT REMINDERS:
EARLY DIMISSAL
When you are picking up your student early from school:
- Bring in your Drivers license, Michigan ID or Passport to verify your identity.
- Allow yourself at least 15 minutes for pick up.
- We DO NOT pull students early from class. There is no need to call ahead of time.
BRINGING IN A STUDENT LUNCH
Please make sure that the lunch has the student name and grade on the container. Be sure the lunch is delivered by 10:45.
