No Kid Hungry $5,000 Grant
The Monett School District received $5,000 in grant funding to support the free meal program during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Students learning from home have the opportunity to pick up meals from school. During the first semester, the kitchen served about 120 meals each week; they are now serving up to 260 meals weekly. The No Kid Hungry fund was used to purchase food warmers to keep meals warm during meal pick up for in-house students and virtual students.
“This school year looks different than any we’ve seen before, but one thing remains the same: kids rely on us not just for their education but also nutritious meals,” said Ralph Meredith, Food Service Director. “We have a deep desire to serve students delicious and nutritious meals during such a difficult time for everyone.” “This grant from No Kid Hungry will help ensure that we can continue to provide our students with the nutrition they need to learn, while also helping their families make ends meet during this difficult time.”
Education looks different this year for millions of students across America, but whether they’re learning in a classroom or online, kids need nutritious food to reach their full potential. With many families having lost jobs or wages in recent months, more kids than ever rely on the meals they get at school.
