PES Notes
Week of September 5th-9th
First full week!
Happy Weekend,
I hope each of you has had a great weekend so far. The month of August was a great one at PES, and September is starting that way as well. We have some important events this month, and I will share more throughout the newsletter. We want to make sure you are aware of everything that is happening at PES.
As I shared last week, you will hear me talk about the importance of reading each week. While it may sound like a broken record, a student must have a solid reading foundation. Three years ago, we adopted a curriculum focusing on readers' foundational skills. Honestly, it seemed weird when I first began to study foundational skills. I do not remember how I learned to read, but I figure it was with foundational skills like we are doing now. I believe we will see a massive difference in our students as we continue with this approach.
Over the next few weeks, I plan to share videos and articles about the importance of reading. Watch or read them if you would like. However, if I had to challenge you to do one thing, it would be to read to your child or have them read to you. Find a book that interests them and have at it. When your child sees that it is essential to you, it will become important to them. Here is an article on why you should read every day.
Thank you for being part of the PES family. We strive every day to meet the needs of our students. Some days are more challenging, but we look forward to seeing them every day. Have a great day, and please feel free to contact us if you need anything.

School Dismissed
Decatur County Schools will be closed Monday, September 5th, in observance of Labor Day. They will also be closed Thursday, September 8th, for Parent Teacher Conference and Friday, September 9th, for staff development. The after-school program will be open Thursday and Friday from 7-5:30. Students need to eat breakfast before coming and bring a lunch.
Parent Teacher Conference
Decatur County Schools will host a Parent Teacher conference on September 8th from 2-6. This is an opportunity to meet with your teacher and discuss how your child is progressing. I would encourage you to keep up to date with your child's grade and attendance by looking at your ParentVue account. If you forgot your password, stop by Thursday and see someone in the office, and they can help you.
Grab a book and read with you child!!

SMART SCHOOL is in full force. Smart School is a chance for students to get extra help with homework, studying for tests, and keeping up to date with online programs. Smart School is open until 6 each day. If you want more information about it, please contact Dr. Pearcy by emailing her @ amanda.pearcy@decaturschools.org.
