Roman News September 2020
From the principal's desk...
With everything we do within the school, we have to think through how we can protect our kids. Several things we do this year will be different than in the past. We are still working through how we plan to hold various activities, in a safe way. We are hoping after fall break, several of our after school clubs will be able to begin. More details will be coming soon.
Please consider helping with the fundraiser this year! Normally we raise money in several different ways, such as popcorn Fridays, carnival, concession stand, however, this year we are limited on what we can do. The more sales we have with the fundraiser, we will make up for the loss of the other things we are unable to do. Please consider helping.
Sick Children and Quarantined Children
If your child is sick and is staying home, our attendance secretary, Mrs. Young, will call in a few days to check in and see how things are going. If your child is better, but still must remain home for 10 days for extra caution, we want your child to join their class online each day for lessons. We do not want any child to fall behind, just because they are being quarantined at home.
Sometimes children are home and quarantined because of a family member being ill. We will not count your child absent, if they attend classes online each day and complete the recommended lessons your child's teacher is requesting. We will be checking attendance each day to make sure he or she is present.
This is all very confusing trying to juggle all of the different things with attendance this year. We will try to communicate with you as much as possible and work through whatever we can to make sure your child is safe and learning.
I want to thank you ahead of time for all of you patience and understanding on how we are handling illnesses and quarantining children this year!
The weather is changing!

Keeping our students safe!
We are working hard to provide a safe environment for your children. Below are a few reminders I have sent to our staff that also apply to your children. Please share these thoughts with your child:
- Wear your mask!! A mask provides a layer of safety for your child and reduces the “splash zone” to protect others. When students are separated by at least 3 feet, they are allowed to remove their mask while completing silent, independent work at their desk. When they stand up, they need to mask up. When someone, an adult or student, wants to communicate with another person, the teacher and student need to pull up their mask.
- Practice staying six feet apart whenever possible. Help your child visualize six feet. One way is to hold two yardsticks end to end. That will demonstrate six feet. If you don’t have two yardsticks, consider laying on the floor. If you are less than six feet tall, tell your child he/she needs to stand a distance that is longer than you. It’s just an idea:)
- Practice the basics of washing hands, using hand sanitizer, and reducing what is touched.
- Wear a mask during the entire trip when riding the school bus!
- If your child is ill or experiencing any COVID symptoms, please keep him/her home!! Our attendance policy will not be followed for students who are ill.
- Don’t trust anyone to be COVID free! The virus is difficult to detect and anyone can unknowingly spread it. While we all believe our family members or close friends will be virus free, that may not be true. Many of our students who have been sent home have been exposed through a family member or by attending a gathering.
