Join us for teacher-led workshops, light breakfast, and a delicious lunch. Teachers from CLSD grant schools earn a $250 stipend for full participation. Registration limited to first 45 signed up.

Youth Programs
Scholastic Writing Awards, grades 7-12
This is the nation’s longest-running and most prestigious recognition program for creative works for grades 7-12. Students can submit works starting in September 2024. Fee waivers available. www.artandwriting.org
KC Kids Unite, grades 3-5
KC Kids Unite is a partnership between The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, the Johnson County Library and the GKCWP. The 2025 program will allow for 10 classrooms to participate in shared reading, writing and art-making experiences. Working to dismantle racism and build a stronger community, KC Kids Unite will provide a three-week, social justice curriculum and professional development to help teachers integrate and share resources.
Program Components
Teachers participate in PD workshop and earn $125 stipend: Saturday, February 15, 10am - 4pm.
Implementation of classroom curriculum with partner classroom: March - April
Art-making field trip with partner classroom: May 2025
Registration fee: $175 (Fee waiver for CLSD schools.)

Saturday, February 22, 2025 from 9a-3p, and Saturday, March 1, 2025 from 9a-4p.
The Community Celebration will be Saturday, March 1, 2025 from 2p-4p.
Both workshops and the community event will be at the KC Library, Plaza Branch.

Middle School Writing Conference
Wednesday, May 14, 9am - 1pm at the Missouri Innovation Campus (1101 NW Innovations Pkwy, Lee's Summit, MO 64086)
Writers in grades 6-8 will participate in interactive writing workshops. Students from diverse schools can build new friendships, explore new writing opportunities, and read their works at the Open Mic performance. Teachers will take away new classroom lesson and activity ideas. Lunch is provided.
A team of 1 teacher and 5 students is $200 (CLSD Schools eligible for fee waiver). Register here.

Summer Writing Camps
Since 1983, the GKCWP has offered creative writing camps in locations throughout the city. Participants will write daily in a creative and supportive environment. The sessions are designed and led by experienced teachers of writing. At the end of each session, writers will share their favorite pieces with friends and families at an Open Mic celebration.
