My Size Fits Me in the Global Classroom
On September 25, 2015, 193 world leaders committed to 17 Global Goals for Sustainable Development. Our world is becoming smaller in that we will be voting on global issues by 2020. Technology is making bringing the world to our fingertips and making all things more accessible. Therefore, our students are relying on us to provide them the global knowledge to be competitive with international students. Global Education should be easily integrated into core curriculums by creating interdisciplinary programs. "My Size Fits Me" pertains to the global classroom because all teachers are not going to create globalization opportunities for their students the same way. However, all educators need to start somewhere...Union County Public School students count on you to prepare them for the future. As UCPS Global Teacher Leaders, our goal is to provide you with technology links, curriculum ideas, and international ideas so you can seamlessly incorporate global education into your classroom.
The Global Goals
Lindsay Gallagher (GTL from Piedmont MS) shared that 7th grade social studies students can work in Global Goals Inquiry Circles on the 17 goals to achieve 3 extraordinary things in the next 15 years.
National Save Club
Jim Williams (GTL from Parkwood HS) has a calendar from nationalsave.org which highlights international days such as: World Kindness Day Nov. 13th and No Name-Calling Week Jan. 18-22, 2016.
Mr. Nicky
Thea Rossano (GTL from Marvin Ridge MS) has 6th grade students getting excited about Ancient Civilizations through Mr. Nicky's youtube curriculum songs.
GeoGuessr
Mariana Oprea (GTL from Piedmont HS) shared the website GeoGuessr which presents you with five street view shots from random locations on Earth, and then asks you to guess where you think they are. Students will have to find clues from the surroundings and use their best deductive powers to accurately place the geography location.
The Water Project
Diana Ollis (GTL from Sun Valley MS) shared The Water Project program that they have been involved with for the last 3 years. SVMS does fundraisers to go toward water in Kenya. On average it is $23 to provide water for one person for life and about $7,000 to build a well.Bridging the Water is a pilot remote sensor program to protect the wells and water in those communities. Hopefully in the Spring, 8th graders will be able to use information provided by the remote sensors to look at water quality on a global perspective.
Wonderopolis
Jodi Robinson (GTL from Unionville Elem.) shared Wonderopolis, "Where the Wonders of Learning Never Cease." This website aims at finding learning in everyday life. Ask a question and you may find the answer accompanied with photos, videos, and highlighted vocabulary.
Flocabulary
Jodi Robinson (GTL from Unionville Elem.) shared the website Flocabulary to assist in teaching and engaging students with educational hip-hop songs and videos. Flocabulary has songs and videos for language arts. math, science and social studies. Unfortunately, this website is not free.
Worldmapper
Mariana and Gabriel Oprea shared Worldmapper. Worldmapper is a collection of world maps where territories are re-sized due to different subjects. This site is an excellent way to engage students in global issues.
Static to Dynamic
Mariana and Gabriel Oprea shared presentations and ways to engage students in global issues. There is a link to a Prezi presentation called "Static to Dynamic Tech Tools for Engaging Global Learners." There is also a Live Binder called "Static to Dynamic: Engaging Students with Global Issues" that students and teachers can use as a resource. There is a link to use Views of the World that is perfect for Earth Science, and social studies hook. Teachers can start with a small clip about infomaps. These maps warp the surface of a country function of different parameters. Ex. consumption of water, population, GDP.

- Jodi Robinson (GTL from Unionville Elem.) shared how to share links and pages directly out to your students that are enrolled in your Google Classroom by adding “Share to Classroom” as an extension on your computer.
