Costume Parade 10/29/21
Dear Parents/Guardians:
I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to our annual Costume Parade. Weather permitting, the parade will be held outdoors on Friday October 29, 2021. Students will begin the parade at approximately 2:05 PM. The parade will begin at the front doorway. The classes will follow a circular route around the school.
Students will change into their costumes in their classrooms shortly before the parade. For the safety of all children, please be sure that your child wears a costume that allows for him/her to see and walk easily. Costume masks are discouraged because children have difficulty seeing through them as they walk. Costumes must easily go over students’ regular school clothes. Students will not be allowed to use the lavatories for dressing purposes. To prevent injuries, students may not bring “stick-like props” to school including swords, pitchforks, canes, baseball bats, etc.
Unfortunately, there is no additional or special parking. Please observe our parking rules and regulations.
For the safety and accountability of all students, students may not be signed out by their parents for an early dismissal on this day. Attendance will be taken in all homerooms following the parade.
We look forward to seeing you at our parade on October 29, 2021
MS. FEEN’S SCHOOL-COUNSELING CORNER
Here we are, already into the second month of school! In September, we celebrated “New Beginnings”, though in some ways….it was more of the same! I know we were all hopeful by June of last year that we’d be entering our school buildings without masks and without Covid concerns, but we’re just not there yet. The good news is, our students are back to in-person learning, and we couldn’t be more excited about that. Most students were at least partially remote for much of last year and academic progress was all over the map. The K-3 grade level students are not immune to the pressure, anxiety and uncertainty that comes along with returning to school, nor are their Parents and Guardians. It will be important to maintain supports and to take the time to have regular check-ins with your child. What you are worried about may not be what kids are in fact worried about.
Our students have been busy participating in activities around our monthly theme of “Kindness”. We also recognized the “Week of Respect”, and the third week of October will bring lessons related to “School Violence Awareness Week”, which we like to refer to as, “Peace Week”. Our students know the smallest act of kindness can mean a lot to someone.
From a counseling perspective, I’ve found most students return to school to be seamless and they are excited to be back in school. They’ve missed being around their classmates and seeing their Teacher in person, but some of our little ones grew accustomed to being around a Parent or Guardian throughout the school day and their return has been a bit of a struggle. This will pass….maybe Halloween gets them over the hump?? I continue to be impressed by the overall resiliency of our students….We can do hard things!

Birthday Celebrations
One of my goals is for Strathmore students to love coming to school each day. And part of making memorable school experiences means students celebrating special occasions with their classmates. We definitely want all students to stay safe and have fun so please find below a few guidelines for celebrations. Please contact your child's teacher with any specific questions.
Some guidelines for celebrations and party invitations in the classroom:
- Class celebrations are for students only. Sorry parents!
- We encourage parents to send non food items
- Party invitations should be given to all students in a class or either all boys or all girls in the class.
