Bronco of the Week:
This week's "Bronco of the Week" presented by Carson Kostiuk is Bronco Swimmer Jillian Bilben. Bilben is a senior on the swim team this year. She received all Iron Range Conference Honors last week at the IRC meet for her excellent finishes all year in the 50 yard butterfly in the first relay. She is close to breaking a pool record for the year and has been an outstanding and high achieving member of the swim team all year; helping the team to a 4-1 record so far this year in their dual meets.
FHS Band & Choir to Host Annual Haunted House
The haunted house is used a fundraiser that goes toward the large trip that the students take every couple of years as well as helps fund needs that come up with the band and choir throughout the school year. The choir has around 18 students this year and the senior high band has around 30 kids participating this year.
Staff Update
Mr. Ringhofer
Former math teacher, Mr. Ringhofer, has taken on the challenge of Athletic Director. He went from teaching math at FHS for many years, to broadcasting and radio entertainment for KGHS/KSDM and covering Bronco sports and Activities for the past two years. He has now found his way back to FHS in the role of AD. Being an athletic director this year is not an easy role; from making sure games have officials to hiring coaches for teams, Mr Ringhofer does it all. This year the high school activities and the International Falls Recreation Department have combined into one entity as well. Students from the Falls High Ink Journalism class sat down with Mr. Ringhofer to ask him some questions about his new position. Listen here:

Swimming & Diving Compete in IRC meet
The Bronco Girls Swimming and Diving team has competed in six dual meets and two varsity invitational meets and one JV invitational meet. At this point in the season the Broncos have a record of 4 and 1 for dual meets, winning against Northeast Range, Warroad, Chisholm and losing against Rock Ridge. At the Hibbing invitational meet they placed 5th overall, at the huge IRC meet they placed 3rd overall, and at the Shiverland (JV meet) they placed 1st overall! The Broncos are having a very successful season so far. Jillian Bilben, Kieren Ford, and Mary Versteeg all received all-conference honors last week as well.
For upcoming meets the Broncos have two home meets remaining. They are next Tuesday (October 10th), next Thursday (October 12th), and the following Saturday is True Team @ Grand Rapids (October 14th)!
Sections are right around the corner and the Bronco swimmers and divers are looking forward to it! Section Prelims will take place on Thursday, November 9th. Section finals will take place on November 11th. The Broncos are hoping and planning to send all of the girls on their relay teams for the A Relays to the section meet. Rankings will be determined between the next few weeks with the next 5 upcoming meets. Girls who have a great chance of placing competitively in the section meet include: Jillian Bilben, Quianna Ford, Keira Debernardeaux, Savannah Busch, Kendra Kalstad, Sylvia Valenzuela, and Mary VerSteeg! Then both Divers Kieren Ford and Alina Hartzler. Younger girls will be determined on times as the time goes on, but many of them have a great chance of improving enough to make it!
Bronco Cross Country Prepares for Hial Pike Meet
The cross country season has been one of great improvement so far for the Broncos. Many personal records have been met so far this season in almost every meet that the Broncos have competed in. Coach Sheryl Hendrickson said, "It is so great seeing everyone work hard and improve throughout the season. Not only are the athletes improving, they are also building great social skills with the bonding that takes place in cross country. The team is like a big family with everyone cheering every runner on! It is so great to see these athletes collaborating and creating friendships." The group has been commended on their behavior while competing out of town this season as well.
As far as individual accomplishments go, Abbi Hutchinson ha been having a very successful season her senior year with winning her first five meets and she is hoping to return to the State Meet at the end of her season. The other two seniors, Keira Hesseldahl and Mitchell Erickson have both shown tons of improvement this season and have room and the drive to improve even more before the season ends. The coaches are very proud of the team and their season so far and are proud of each individual athlete on both teams.
The Broncos will host their home meet this year on Tuesday, October 10th at the track with a course that will go around the track, football field, arena, and the baseball/softball fields. The meet starts at 4:00 and a kids fun run will take place at 3:45 for any young runners that want to come show off their skills. The team is looking forward to having a home meet so that their families and friends can come out and support them.
Football Heads to Moose Lake to Tackle Second Half of Season
The Bronco Football team is in week 6 of their season. Their record currently is 3-2 after five games. They beat Greenway, Ely, and Hinckley and lost to Crosby Ironton and Mesabi East in close games, losing by one touchdown each game.
The Broncos have three regular season games left, including the Friday, October 6th game where they will head to Moose Lake to take on the Rebels in a tough matchup. The Broncos are looking forward to the Moose Lake game this year, as they feel it will be a much closer game than last year, and they are ready to take on the Rebels.
To finish out the season they will play Aitken and Rush City at home at Bronco Stadium. It is the Broncos first time facing Aitken in many years, and Rush City is a game they are looking forward to ending the season on.
Playoffs begin on Tuesday, October 24th and the Broncos are looking forward to being competitive in the section 7AA playoffs this year.
