School Lunch Menu Update- PB&J Sandwiches
Our elementary schools will begin serving peanut butter & jelly sandwiches in the cafeteria starting in January 2023. The item that will be served is a Smucker's Uncrustable, a pre-packaged option. This means that there will be no risk of cross-contamination in the kitchens for students who experience peanut allergies and participate in school lunch.
Your children's safety is our highest concern. Safeguards will be in place so that students with peanut allergies will have an alert on their account, preventing them from being served an item containing peanuts. If you have any questions about our cafeteria processes to prevent cross-contamination, please contact Nutrition Services at nutrition@sherwood.k12.or.us. If you want to discuss concerns about your own child's allergy with our Health Services Department, please contact health@sherwood.k12.or.us.
Family Movie Night - January 13th
Join us for a Family Movie Night to watch "Minions: The Rise of Gru" in the Middleton Cafeteria on Friday, January 13th at 5:30pm. It will be a fun night of friends, family and laughs! The PAC will provide popcorn and water, and there will be pizza and candy for purchase for $1 each. Please bring a blanket or low rise chair for your family. Your entire family is welcome; students must be accompanied by an adult. Doors open at 5:30pm and the movie will begin at 6:15pm. See you then!!!
Attendance
We hope you have a wonderful break full of rest, relaxation, and joy. The Middleton staff is grateful for all of your work and partnership in creating routines for your family as we all work to support your family’s learning goals. Daily routines are essential for reducing stress and creating a sense of security, which helps each student on their journey to become lifelong learners.
Every day of school is an important opportunity for students' academic learning as well as for building connections with their peers and teachers. While we hope you and your family greatly enjoy this time off, we also appreciate everyone’s efforts to avoid taking extra time off surrounding the winter break. As long as your child is healthy, please encourage showing up to class when school is in session.
We thank:
- Our students and their families who do their best to show up daily even when it isn’t easy.
- Our teachers who go above and beyond to make school a welcoming and safe place for all students to learn.
- Our administrators who help us work together to ensure we create a physically and emotionally safe and engaging learning environment.
- Our many, many helpers - the support staff and community volunteers who provide the extra hands and attention our children need.
We appreciate each one of you! May these days off be restful and healing.
- If your family or your child needs support, please reach out to our Counselor, Mrs. Olson or our Principal, Mili Wilkinson for help.
- We look forward to seeing you again when school resumes Wednesday, January 4, 2023.
Thank you for partnering with us!
Great Body Shop - Health Instruction
Please be on the lookout for communication from your teachers about online access to The Great Body Shop, our Health Instructional materials. Teachers will be sharing access to the Family Portal and instructions on creating an account. This Portal will allow you to view the Student Issues that accompany each unit in Health, as well as the complete lesson plans for all Opt-Out Optional lessons and activities. In order to know which lessons to look for, you can refer to the opt-out forms sent at the beginning of health instruction each unit. Please note that ALL Opt-Out Optional lessons are available online, including ones that will not be addressed until later in the year. Thank you for your continued support!
Update from the Health Services Department
Oregon is experiencing high levels of respiratory viruses -- especially in children -- which include RSV, influenza, colds and COVID-19. In addition, schools in our district have seen an increase in absences recently, with a significant number of families reporting student illness as the cause for those absences.
Respiratory viruses can spread rapidly, so it is important for students who are sick to stay home when they have the following symptoms:
Fever of 100.4 or greater
New or worsening cough
Vomiting and diarrhea
Headache with stiff neck or fever
New instance of difficulty breathing which is not due to a medical condition (ie; asthma)
If you have questions about when your child can return to school after an illness, please contact our office or call Health Services at 503-825-5088 for assistance.
In addition to staying home when ill, ways to combat the spread of respiratory viruses include frequent hand washing/sanitizing, disinfecting of frequently touched surfaces, covering coughs and sneezes (using tissue or the inside of your elbow), and avoiding sharing cups/water bottles/food or drinks.
For more information on respiratory viruses and other illnesses causing outbreaks in Oregon schools (such as Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease), please visit the Health Services website at https://sherwood.k12.or.us/departments/health-services/resources.
