Wylie High School BPA Competes at State Leadership Competition
WHS took its largest chapter ever, 23 students, to compete with over 3,900 total students at the Hilton Anatole for the four-day SLC competition. Every Pirate competed in an individual event and the open competition, all while participating in leadership sessions and interning.
Michelle Bellamy, the team sponsor, said "Our students worked so very hard to prepare for this event and I could not be more proud of them."
Only the top 5 competitors in each event advance to the National competition. In a very tough field, the Pirates came away with one 1st alternate, Tiana Oyugi, in Computer Security. While not advancing, the remaining 22 Pirates finished in the top .05% of the competing field!
Bellamy continued, "This is just stellar. We cannot wait to compete again next year."
Please join us in congratulating these students.
Boy Scout installs U.S. Flag Retirement Drop Box at District Central Office
When he noticed his Boy Scout Troop was accepting many American flags from people who didnโt have a way to properly retire them, Wylie High School senior Riley Boles sprung into action.
โI wanted to make a convenient drop-off location for people needing to retire flags,โ Boles said.
Boles worked with Wylie ISD to become the benefactor for his U.S. Flag Retirement Drop Box. As part of his Eagle project, Boles has overseen the project from purchasing and designing the drop box to installation. Located on the west side of the Wylie ISD Education Service Center at 951 S. Ballard, anyone needing to retire a U.S. flag is welcome to place it in the drop box to be properly retired by Boy Scout Troop 78.

PTA and Pirates Visit State Capitol
Wylie ISDโs Council of PTAs took students to the Texas State Capitol in Austin as part of the Texas Parent Teacher Association Rally Day Feb. 27.
โRally Day is an advocacy event for PTA members to speak face-to-face with local legislators on the matters they want addressed,โ Monica Muรฑoz, Wylie ISD Council of PTAs President, said.
The attendees spent the day listening to current state representatives and senators during the 88th Legislature.
โIโm impressed that our Pirates chose to spend the day learning about current legislation and advocating for their own futures,โ WHS Principal Brian Alexander said. โIt was a great day!โ
