Greetings Timberwolf Families,
It’s hard to believe that we are well into the second half of the school year but it's true! We have a lot to share with you so I will keep it short and sweet! Mid Winter Break is next week (I am sure your kids have reminded you) and whether you are traveling, relaxing at home or just enjoying a little bit less on your to-do list, our hope is that it is just what you and your family need.
This week we celebrated our Student of the Quarter winners for 2nd quarter. Students are chosen for modeling the 3 R's which consist of being responsible, being respectful and being resiliant.
Way to go Timberwolves!
Student Survey
A student survey will be sent out to all students after Mid-Winter Break. The purpose of the survey is to monitor the climate and culture of Enumclaw Middle School students.
NEW - Choice Transfer Procedures and Timelines
- Choice Transfer applications for the upcoming school year are being received for review during the district's "open enrollment" period of March 1 through March 31.
- For families who miss the March open enrollment dates, a second review of Choice Transfers will be available starting August 1 through the first day of school. Decisions regarding placement will be made no later than September 10.
- Choice Transfers received outside of the open enrollment dates will be denied.
PROCEDURE - Nonresident Students
This procedure identifies conditions by which non-resident students may apply to attend a
school in the Enumclaw School District. A non-resident student is one who resides in another
public school district. This procedure is to be administered by fair and equitable standards
towards all students.
The process for requesting admission outside of the district is as follows:
1. Choice Transfer requests for an enrolled student who moved out of the district in the
current school year must be submitted to the district office for review. Students in good
standing will be permitted to complete the current school year.
2. Choice Transfer (nonresident) applications submitted for a nonresident student for the
upcoming school year will be received for review during an open enrollment period.
Parents/guardians will be notified within 45 days of the Enumclaw School District’s
receipt of the application of the status of their requests. Any application is automatically
denied if not responded to by the District within 45 days of the receipt of the
application.
a. Requests will be approved, denied or waitlisted. Waitlisted applications are those
that are denied, but will be approved if space becomes available prior to
September 10.
3. Open enrollment dates for Choice Transfer applications will be received at the district
office from March 1 through March 31.
4. Choice Transfer applications are reviewed and granted on a year to year basis. The
approval or denial of the request for a given school year does not imply that a request
for the succeeding school year will be either approved or denied.
5. Choice Transfer students will not be permitted to displace resident students. If a Choice
Transfer request is approved, the approval is only on a conditional basis and may be
revoked up until the first day of school in order to provide space for resident students
who move into the Enumclaw School District attendance area boundaries over the
summer.
6. If a Choice Transfer waiver request is approved, it is expected the non-resident student
will exhibit good behavior, maintain satisfactory attendance and meet academic
expectations. If student behavior issues arise or excessive absences and/or tardies
occur, the Choice Transfer approval may be revoked at the discretion of the Enumclaw
School District as outlined in Board Policy 3141 and this procedure.
7. Parents who do not complete a Choice Transfer application for the upcoming school year
during the March open enrollment time period may apply between August 1 and the
first day of school. Decisions regarding placement will be made no later than September
10.
8. The district will adhere to RCW 28A.225.225 for admission of non-residents students
who are the children of full-time certificated and classified employees.
9. If the Choice Transfer application is denied, the parent/guardian may appeal the decision
to the district’s Superintendent according to Board Policy 3141.
10. If the Choice Transfer appeal to the district’s Superintendent is denied, the
parent/guardian may appeal the decision to the office of the Superintendent of Public
Instruction per RCW 28A.225.230 as outlined in Board Policy 3141.
Additional Choice Transfer Information for Frequently Asked Questions
1. Preference placements will be considered for currently enrolled Choice Transfer students
in good standing i.e. acceptable behavior, satisfactory attendance and meeting academic
expectations.
2. There will be no preference placements for new student Choice Transfer applications
with siblings or relatives in the district.
3. Transportation for accepted Choice Transfer students is the responsibility of the
parent/guardian.
4. A Choice Transfer application is not required for students who reside on the
Muckleshoot Reservation (a contiguous border with the Enumclaw School District) and
who choose to enroll in the district per RCW28A.225.170.
a. The neighborhood schools for students residing on the Muckleshoot Reservation
are Westwood Elementary, Thunder Mountain Middle School and Enumclaw
High School.
b. If a family residing on the Muckleshoot Reservation desires their student to
attend a district school different than the assigned neighborhood school, they
must request a transfer via the intra-district transfer review process. This is the
same procedure for any student in the district whose family desires they attend a
school different from their neighborhood school.
Learning Lounge
Students have an opportunity for extra help on school assignments. Learning Lounge will be after school from 2:35 pm to 3:40 pm. in Mrs. McLaughlin's classroom, C6.
We are adding a student sign-up feature for Learning Lounge this semester. This means students can sign themselves up to stay after school to get work done. This DOES NOT mean this it’s social time to hang out with friends. We want this to be a structured opportunity for students to take ownership of their learning and work habits.
This spring we are excited to announce we will once again be offering Guiding Good Choices.
This workshop is FREE to parents and caregivers of kids ages roughly 9-14. DINNER and CHILDCARE are included!
Workshop is 5 sessions held on Tuesday nights, at TMMS, March 12th - April 9th, 6:00-8:00pm.
Taught by a licensed therapist specializing in youth, this workshop helps caregivers learn how to:
- Strengthen family bonds
- Reduce family conflict
- Support kids to build resistance skills
- Set clear family rules to keep kids safe and make positive choices
