Our first Friday School is on September 8th. Friday School means we have school. All staff is at the building and supporting students.

What is different on Friday School days is which students are REQUIRED to attend. All students are welcome to attend if they want support in their academic work from our staff. However, students with lower than a "D" in any course the previous Monday are REQUIRED to come.

On Monday, we notify students and parents/guardians. We notify parents/guardians of students who are REQUIRED to attend through Infinite Campus (only). Students are informed during their 7th period if they are required to attend. In this communication to parents, there is an option to sign up for busing. Bussing requests MUST be filled out by the end of the day on Tuesday.

Here is what is excellent about Friday School! A student has till the end of the school day on the THURSDAY before to raise his/her grade(s) in the courses that REQUIRE the student to attend Friday School. If the student goes to the Main Office, gets a Friday School sign-off form, has the course(s) signed off by the teacher, AND returns it to the office, we will remove the student from the REQUIRED attendance list. Woot! Woot! That is to be celebrated!

If your student participates in a WMS sport, your athlete must purchase an Activities Pass. Purchase of the pass is only required the first sports season your athlete participates in, regardless of the number of sports your child chooses to participate in. The fees to purchase the Activities Pass are:

$50- for any participating athlete, includes free entrance into WMS sporting events when shown to ticket takers

$75- for any participating athlete, includes free entrance into WMS sporting events AND DCHS Sporting Events when shown to ticket takers

Any day is a great day to show our WMS Demon spirit. However, Thursdays our students and staff are encouraged to show our pride as a community!

Student Arrival

• If arriving by bus, students are dropped off on the far south end of our building on Meade and make their way to the playground.
• If walking, students will make their way to the playground
• If being dropped off by car, students are dropped off on N. River Ave., behind WMS. Cars are to pull off to the side of the road. There is an opening in the fence for students to enter the playground
• If your student arrives after 8:00, please drop them off in front of the building on Meade Ave. note curb paintings and bus area (no parking) signs.

Student Dismissal

• If riding the bus home, students will go to the playground and their bus.
• If walking, students will leave and walk home.
• If getting picked up by a car, drivers are to pull over to the side of the road, obeying curb paintings, bus area signs, and driving laws while waiting for students to arrive.

If someone else is dropping off or picking up your student, please ensure they know these procedures. Often, older siblings, grandparents, etc., help out families with pick up and drop off. Thank you for being so helpful in keeping our students and drivers in the area safe!

Thank you to our 8th-grade mentors who guided our 6th-graders today. I was discussing with some of our mentors today about how important their role is. We were reflecting on their 6th-grade year and it brought smiles to their faces thinking about the 8th-graders who led the way for them.
