Technology Updates
Chromebook Reminders: Personal Computers
A reminder that students should use WUSD-issued Chromebooks at school and students will not be permitted to use personal laptops at school. The WUSD Chromebooks provide layers of security and access to approved content that personal devices such as laptops do not accommodate for. Thank you for your support as we work to help students best use the amazing technology in the WUSD!
AI (Artificial Intelligence)
You have likely heard about the advances in Artificial Intelligence. Below you will find some information relative to this emerging technology.
What is AI?
Artificial intelligence is the development of computer systems or software that can perform tasks that would typically require human intelligence. These tasks include understanding and processing language, recognizing patterns, making decisions, solving problems, learning from experience, and interacting with the environment. AI systems are designed to mimic or simulate human-like abilities, enabling computers to carry out complex tasks with little or no human intervention.
Generative AI
Generative AI is a type of artificial intelligence that can create new content, such as text, images, music, and code. It does this by learning from a large amount of existing data, then using that knowledge to generate new outputs that are similar to the data it was trained on. Typically the user will provide the AI with a prompt, which is often written in normal conversational language. The user can craft the prompt with more details to help customize and improve the output.
In the context of education, generative AI can be used to:
- Create personalized learning materials
- Generate practice questions
- Provide instant feedback to students
- Explain topics at any level and depth
- And more!
Keep in mind that Generative AI is a relatively new technology.
The content it generates could be incorrect or biased. We must always evaluate and verify the content generated.
