The Llewellyn Friday Flyer
December 1, 2023
Dear Families,
This has been an amazing week with students and staff back in the building! Sounds of laughter, learning activities, and comments from students such as, "I am so happy to be back in school. I don't even mind the work!" have lifted our spirits and helped us to remember the best parts of working in schools.
While it is amazing to be back in school, I want to acknowledge that the last few weeks during the strike and the many challenges we faced were HARD. Many people in the community expressed frustration with the length of time it took to complete the bargaining process, the stress of the unknown, difficulty finding child care, and so much more. Now, dates chosen for school make-up days, especially during what would have been the first week of Winter Break, are bringing new challenges and difficult choices for us all.
Through it all, however, one common belief we all share is that we love our community, we want the best for our students and great public schools. Furthermore, we value all of our educators, whether it be our teachers or other staff members, and recognize what a gift they are to our community. We want to return these feelings of appreciation back towards you, our community, and thank you for your support, flexibility, understanding and generosity. While many of the changes ratified in the contract will not occur until next year, know that we are building better school environments and conditions for teaching and learning for your students for years to come.
As always, feel free to contact me with your questions, ideas, or concerns at pgwynn@pps.net.
Have a great weekend!
Principal Pam

Has your child returned their Chromebook to school yet?
Dear Parents,
All Chromebooks for students in grade K-2 must be returned to school asap! We rely on our Chromebooks for many learning opportunities and assessments. These cannot happen if there are not enough Chromebooks for your students in class. Please make sure your child returns their Chromebook and cord asap.

Did your student miss photo day? Was it a picture you don’t want to send Grandma? Here’s your chance to get a good one! Re-Take Day is coming up on December 13th. Please be sure your student is here between 8:30 and 10:30AM if they need to get their picture taken! Scholastic Book Fair: December 11-15
It's Book Fair Time!!! Get ready for our first book fair of the year, December 11th -December 15th! Students will visit the fair twice during the week. We are also open after school M-F until 3:15. Students can use cash, card, or an eWallet for a cashless transaction. Use the Book Fair Website for info and eWallets. Also, consider adding money to your teacher's eWallets (just ask for a link!) so they can buy books for their classroom libraries, and the Library eWallet (coming soon) that will help get books to students who can't afford them right now. We are hoping to sell 1800 books in 5 days! Help us reach our goal!!! To sign up to volunteer during the fair, use this Signup Genius.
Sincerely,
Treasa Street and Kari Shawen
Donations Needed!
Have a pile of clothes to donate? We've hit our wet season, which means the clothing lockers at Llewellyn are running low. We are in great need of gently used pants and long sleeve or layering shirts in sizes: youth 10/12, 12/14, 14/16, 16/18 and Adult Small and Medium. As you go through your closet and find things to donate, bring them to the office. Ms. Kellie will be collecting them and organizing what Llewellyn can use. What cannot be used will be brought to the PTA Clothing Closet by our parent volunteer, Kimberly LeVelle.
School Spirit Days
Every Friday will be a School Spirit Day. Students and staff are encouraged to wear their Llewellyn gear new or old. One Friday per month will be a fun theme. On 12/22 it will be Comfy Clothes Day!
Comfy Clothes Day- Friday, December 22nd!
Mix up your favorite colors and patterns and show your school spirit!
News from the PTA
Welcome back everyone!
PTA Happenings
Welcome back everyone!!! We will soon be in December and the holidays are upon us. This week is Decemberville so go and get all the photos, hot cocoa, baked goods and check out all the fun holiday activities in our little neighborhood. We also have some big events coming up in both January and February starting with our Read-a-thon and OBOB. Let’s get back to business!
We are still in need of a lead committee chair for our Read-a-Thon fundraiser in January. We are still building this new committee and look forward to sharing the details soon. Please email llewellynpta@gmail.com if you are interested in being a part of this new fundraiser! You would have full guidance and support from our board and we look forward to working with you to help our students to continue to get the resources and support that they need in the classroom.
OBOB Informational Session on December 6!
Is your 3rd, 4th or 5th grader interested in participating in OBOB? The Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) is a statewide program to encourage students who love reading to broaden their reading interests. Students starting in 3rd grade will form teams, read a variety of books, and participate in a friendly competition to test their comprehension, collaborate as a team, and get the added benefit of being exposed to a variety of literary styles and viewpoints.
Come to an informational session on Dec. 6 from 2:30-3:15 in the Llewellyn library. Our amazing librarian, Treasa Street, will explain how OBOB works and how to participate. Signups will begin in November and Llewellyn's OBOB event will take place Feb. 22 and 23.
You can find out more on the Llewellyn OBOB website. Contact parent volunteer Sarah Sell at sarah.s.sell@gmail.com if you have questions or would like to help with this event.
Our family craft night was cancelled but will be rescheduled soon. Look for an announcement on Konstella!
This weekend during Decemberville our fifth grade is having a bake sale to support their fifth grade overnight trip. There is a post on Konstella for many more volunteers and contributions to the baked goods table. Let’s help them have a successful sale so they can have an awesome trip!
It's a WRAP on our Charleston Wrap Fundraiser!
Thank you to everyone who participated and helped the PTA raise money to support field trips for all! Individual prizes have arrived from the company and will be sent home with students soon.
We also have three Gift Wrap Bundles to award our TOP SELLERS! Juno Huling, Madelyn Mountain, and the Ham Family (Gavin, Asher, Otto) all were superstar sellers!! Please email kiliandethan@gmail.com to arrange for your prize or we'll reach out on Konstella. THANK YOU!!

New Report Cards for 2023-24 Academic Year
During the 2022-23 school year, a team of educators from over 20 PPS elementary schools and several central office departments came together to revise our K-5 report cards. Guided by family feedback, this team worked to ensure that our report cards are:
Clear and meaningful for families;
User-friendly for educators;
Aligned with Oregon standards; and,
Differentiated to represent the needs of all of our student populations.
The team felt strongly that the revised report cards should be accompanied by a Family Report Card Guide (amended date) --so that families and educators can be well-supported in their use of these important communication tools. We welcome your feedback and suggestions regarding this resource by emailing K5academics@pps.net.
For Quarter One ONLY- Specialists (such as music, PE, Dance, Art and Library) will NOT be entering grades or comments. You can expect grades and comments in Quarter 2.
LLEWELLYN TEACHERS WILL BE SENDING HOME REPORT CARDS ON 12/08
Look for them in your child's backpacks!!! 😀
