The Music Theater Workshop Class completed blocking their scenes in the MPR this week! During Music 6, students Started their Harmony unit, playing ukuleles. They are learning about chords and strumming patterns. Everyone passed the first chord check-in! In Keyboard Class students performed songs with flats and learned to play the F Major Scale. The Vocal Power Singers performed their Broadway and Hollywood Musical songs! They chose songs from "Mamma Mia," the "Teen Beach Movie," the "Greatest Showman" and more!

In the past, Leads have written a note to the next person to play their role. They give advice on how to portray the character, handle performance jitters, and reminisce about their favorite moment. Keep the tradition going!

Our Music in the Parks contest is May 6th, 2023 all day

Our Itinerary for Singers who are NOT in BAND or ORCHESTRA:

All Singers who perform with the Band and Orchestra will meet us at Viking Middle School.

🚌They will ride with their Band or Orchestra to Great America.🚌

They will return to Emerson with their Band or Orchestra group!

8:45 am Meet at Emerson Bus is leaving at 9:00!!! - We Cannot Wait for those who are Late!

Proceed to Viking Middle School

10:20 am Emerson Show Choir

10:40 am District Honors Chorus (Emerson and Lincoln 6/7/8 Singers)

11:00 am Lincoln Show Choir

11:30 am Proceed to Great America

6:15 PM Leave Great America

7:00 PM Return to Emerson

After we compete students may choose to go to Great America with us. Students who do not want to attend Great America will need to arrange transportation home. The fees in School Bucks reflect the different options.

This is activity is optional, but a great singing and performance opportunity for students. We sing/perform for collegiate choral professors and they give us feedback and possibly a trophy.

The Great America Letter is also the Music in the Parks Permission Slip!

Things to Know: - Upon arrival to Viking Middle School students will not need anything with them. We encourage students to leave their bags on the bus, but they may bring their water if needed.

Great America

• Students are required to stay in groups of 4+ during their time at Great America.
• I will be at the fountain with the medical bags should anyone need them.
• Check-In Times : There is a mandatory check in for all students who are in chorus, but not in band or orchestra at 3:00pm at the FRONT FOUNTAIN. (band and orchestra are checking in at X-Flight at 3pm)
• A text message or an email does NOT suffice as a check in. I have to see each individual student.
• We meet again at the MUSIC HALL at 5:15pm for the awards ceremony and another check in.
• We will meet at the front entrance by the fountain at 5:45pm to depart for Emerson.

Mr. Hanes, the Maine South High School Choral Director, visited the 8th Grade Vocal Power and 7/8 Singers today! He shared some High School Vocal Warm-Ups and talked about the opportunities for singers in high school!

We need to upgrade our sixteen year old sound system. Six of our microphone units are no longer useable. We are switching to a digital microphone system that will prevent feedback and improve the quality of sound. We will also be able to use rechargeable batteries which will be a huge savings. We use our Sound System for the Musical, Vocal Power, and Music Theater Workshop classes as well as additional performances. Please participate in our fundraisers whenever possible! THANK YOU ALL. Special thanks to Donna Zorba-O'Brien and Tina Serio for organizing the Dine to Donate at D'Agostino's Pizza and Pub Niles! D'Agostino's is donated 15% of all sales from Tuesday, March 7!
